Clark Supporters - Buck up!
Edited on Sat Jan-24-04 05:23 AM by Jack_Dawson
So much for having insomnia. I wander down to my computer only to find post after post of hardened Clark supporters waxing philosophical about Clark's "stalled" campaign. (Et tu, DTH?)

Look y'all - like the Washington Post article pointed out, Clark's "problem" is that it's not last week and it's not yet next week. I guess this is why people spend day after day after day in Iowa - the winners are now enjoying the Iowa "momentum", and it feels like forever until the next primary. But the next primary is Tuesday, and that will give this thing a fresh shake-up yet again.

Let's remember a few things:

Two weeks ago John Kerry was left for dead, taking out mortgages on hiw own house to keep his flailing campaign above water.

John Kerry is playing a home game in N.H.

Clark hasn't yet played a home game.

Clark is raising money like a madman, well on his way to surpassing his very aggressive goal of $2 million by Tuesday.

Joe Lieberman is at $106,000.

Clark is leading in Oklahoma, Arizona and California. And last time I checked, he was statistically tied for first in South Carolina.

Clark is currently in 2nd place in New Hampshire

Other campaigns are starting to advertise in Southern Tuesday states. Clark has been there for months.

This primary season especially, is a roller-coaster. Just enjoy the ride, cause it's a long way from over.

1. Clark's campaign begins and ends in the Granite State
This was Clark's time to shine- to prove that he has the political chops. And he has fallen short- in debates, on the stump, in interviews. New Hampshire voters have responded to all this by dropping him in the polls. If it were just stalling, that's one thing- he's dropping a point a day. That's declining...right at the point he needs to prove his electoral mettle. I wouldn't be surprised if Edwards overtakes Clark before this is all over. With a 4th place finish, and no momentum into Feb 3rd, the General may want to hang it up.

We'd be happy with 3rd. Not bad for dropping "a point a day".

30. No it doesn't. Kerry and Dean must do well there. It's their "backyards."
Clark is NOT from the East Coast and has never been expected to do well there. He has plenty of money....

Clark must do well on Feb 3rd.

36. Feb 3rd wont matter if Clark doesn't finish first or runner-up
Zero momentum translates into has-been status for Februrary 3 elections. It's a game of momentum and Clark will have none going into Feb 3.

But I'm still optimistic about my man, Wes Clark. He's got the money to go the distance. :)

5. Thanks Jack. I can't sleep either.
I've been snooping around at Daily Kos reading about
how totally unpredictable NH is, polls or no polls.
They were saying the same thing on PBS today; no one
would even go out on a limb and forecast win/place/show.

We should probably focus on what we have some control over
the next few days: making sure that Clark meets his fundraising
goals! He still has a little ways to go 'til the train's in
the station.

7. What's up with the "glum" faces here?
While the good General has yet to battle, our guy's sinking like a stone.

It's a "must" win for our guy in NH but, you guys got a good shot on Feb.3 with southern states.

You shouldn't be so worried.

If the good Governor happens to drop out before Feb.3(anything can happen)....I'm sure a lot of Dean folks will go to your camp.

Nothing to worry folks.

Really!

11. Thanks for the nice thoughts EXE619K
I think it's overstating it so say Dr Gov (:)) is sinking...
Iowa hasn't historically counted for much; NH's notoriously
unpredictable; there are so many undecideds there; Dean's
getting big crowds. He's also tremendously sympathetic
what with people getting disgusted at the media antics, and
feeling bad for the poor guy 'cause he's sick as a dawg and
having to campaign his butt off. He's handled himself well.

Thanks again. I'll try not to worry.
I think I'll just make your post the last one I read and try
to sleep.

9. Thanks for the encouragement!
It has been a bad day, but hopefully we can hang on through NH primary.

I think I'm watching too many media pudits & talking heads; 24 hour cable news is like an echo chamber, & I think I'm going to put it on permanent mute.

Fuck the media, they will do what they will do.

Kerry had a horrible debate before the big win.

This isn't our time yet, just be patient.

Go Clark!

I strongly believe that Westley Clark is a shiinnig star, a Diamond in the rough. His intelligence and exprience will come thru and people will start to realize if we really want a win in 2004 ,that Clark can and will win .Now its just a matter of the Dems making the right choice ! Soon as Clark started running ,I put my support behind him .The media can'nt ignore him much longer, and second place is a good place to be ,for now .
CLARK 2004
Thanks Nick

38. Clark ain't Bill Clinton
Clinton had experience as an executive in government and had charisma to spare. Clark is well, dull. The momentum is gone. I'm afraid it's time to go back to lobbying the Pentagon for various corporations.

17. Exactly Right
Right you are my friend, I try to look at the polls only every once in a while. I don't live and die by them.

First, national polls mean absolutely nothing. This is a state by state race.

Second, almost half the votes are subject to change.

Third, it's only NH, there's a whole lot of states to go.

Forth, it's only beginning, not ending.

Fifth, don't just sit there, do something. If you are really discourged, ignore negative posts, turn off Fox, and go to www.clark04.com and sign up for eblocks http://www.forclark.com/eblocks/ contact voters by phone. Just don't do it at 2:00 in the morning. ;-)

Fellow Clark supporters don't pay attention to the polls, pay attention to getting voters to the polls.

18. What is there to be down about?
I won't even condsider my 2nd choice until the day I hear from Wesly Clark himself on television that he is dropping out.

Now I may get flamed for this but what the hell, it's not how many battles you win or lose, it's winning the war that counts!

Keep the faith!

19. BOY!
All of you are buying into the press and repuke smears WAY too much.

Quoting their smears, too. That's boneheaded. Just drive around their feeble roadblocks and press on. Do try to consider the sources when you quote something, too. I am really getting hacked reading repuke talking points being quoted by good Dems, quoted in opposition to other good Dems. We will only pay a price for such behavior, ultimately.

Is that a price you REALLY want to pay? Really?

24. Clark Is Going To Kick ASS Feb. 3rd
Kerry has NO Organization across the nation and only ONE week to try and build it.

Clark has the largest and most diverse STATE endorsements across the states.

Clark has more money, grassroots and is running first/tied in polls.

I have DELIBERATELY not posted Clark's polls numbers in other states (other than NH) to keep expectations low.

GO POST ON CLARKBLOG. If you want to discuss how well Clark's campaign is doing... get off DU and go somewheres people aren't mesmerized by CNN and Fox News.

Turn the TV OFF.

Talk to your friends and family.

Talk to the people behind you in line in the grocery store.

Write letters and call people from the blog.

I was just a little bummed out last night, is all. I'm feeling better now. Regardless, I never said I was giving up or wavering, quite the contrary.

Clark will do better than expected in NH, I believe.

34. Remember, too, the polls for Iowa didn't show Kerry winning
before the fact...in fact all the pollsters were fairly surprised. Remember all the talking heads saying "surprising results in Iowa"???

It's just beginning for the real candidates in the race. I'm just hoping LIEberman isn't one of 'em!

37. Thanks for the reminder Jack!
I'd started to feel overwhelmed and jaded by so much campaign coverage. After Iowa it seems like Kerry, Dean and Edwards are everywhere, and that Clark is forgotten, except when its time to criticize him. But your post put all of that back into perspective. Thank you so much for reminding me that our campaign is doing just fine. It's not over till it's over right? Thanks again.
