After media build-up, I thought caucuses boring. They were hyped as being |
|
so argumentative, etc, and it was a big bunch of nothing. I watched two of them on C-span I and II. All the people did was go to their designated place, count noses, call results into headquarters - period.

1. I watched one of the caucuses on C Span |
|
and I was struck by how congenial the people were. As you said, they went into their own spaces, counted noses, and then reported out. There was some horse trading because of the 15% rule but it was all very low key. It looked to me as though most of the people in the caucus I watched were neighbors and very friendly no matter what candidate they were supporting.

I went to caucuses the years I lived in Minnesota. I enjoyed them thoroughly. We lived in Edina, a very repub suburb of the Twin Cities, and the paper, when it listed caucus locations for repsublicans in Edina, took several inches. We dems got one place, period. Anyway, they were interesting, good social times. I once took my borther-in-law, who's Korean and at that time was still living in Korea, to a caucus along with me. I've no doubt they look dull on the tube, but I suspect most actual moment-to-moment pieces of people's lives would come across dull on the tube. I really liked them; prefer them in some respects to the more usual primary.
