Why I am more scared than angry
When Dean people have pointed out that any candidate could have had done to them what was done to Dean, many people said "Oh, no, our candidate is better or smarter or whatever." Here is why this is utter crap.

http://slate.msn.com/id/2094235/

I am not going to quote any of this story. It outlines the Globe's coverage of Kerry. It isn't flattering. Much is dishonest. But for all those Kerry supporters who are so sure that you candidate can't get the Dean treatment, you need to wake up and smell the coffee. I sincerely hope his campaign has done so.

1. dsc--Kerry has been dealing with shit from the press for the past year
Edited on Sat Jan-24-04 12:13 PM by jpgray
We don't need coddling on it, and we don't need to be told it's going to happen. Especially on this board but in the media as well, we're used to being crapped on. And you know what, the attitude with us is "bring it on". Bring those S&B threads! :D

:hi:

3. Read David Zepher's thread
I think my quote was an accurate representation of more than a few Kerry supporters. Sorry, but many of you seem to believe this can't happen to you, it can.

6. Which thread is that?
Let's dispel the illusion--the media are and will always be for Bush. They will define our candidate whoever he is. Maybe some are better under the knife than others, but it will happen no matter who we pick.

2. Oh, we are aware
in fact, I posted this article here two days ago. Kerry has been through the wringer more than once.

But I'm not one to blame the media. If Kerry can't handle his own against them, that's Kerry's fault. However, he's proven time and time again that he can.

And, ironically, the Globe just endorsed him.

7. Whoever takes the nomination
Or is the front runner of the moment will be attacked from multiple sides. The Media will jump on them with both feet and the right wing will open up multiple fronts. We just have to keep hoping that truth will out and our country men and women will be able to wade through the muck.

8. Big deal. Kerry's had GOP operatives plant stories for over THIRTY YEARS.
He already received the Scaife treatment from Scaife. he already HAD the FBI on his tail.

Do you really think the GOP ops didn't TRY to take him down during his BCCI and IranContra investigations?

Puhleeze. Being attacked by the media is something Kerry has SURVIVED for three decades.

12. In the most liberal state on planet earth
Sorry, but if you think the fact he has survived in MA, is indicative of his ability to survive in the south you are out of touch. To put it in perspecitive Dean was 5 for 5 in Vermont and won 7 months after signing civil unions. He was called faggot lover, queer lover, bound for Hell, and God alone knows whatelse. Yet he won going away.

Now he is some crazy crank thanks to lying liars in the press. You people had better wake up. Most people outside of MA have no real idea who Kerry is. The press can, and most certainly will try, to do to him what they did to Dean. Bank on it. Frankly your blithe answer scares me silly.

10. As a Clark supporter, I agree
"What could they possibly throw at Clark? Why, he's down right anti-bush and has a very clean record."

Pishaw! All of the GOP's blows are below the belt, and while some of the candidates are flying below the radar, they are not undetectable, or unattackable.

13. Anyone who thinks that the media will not be able to
"Gore" their candidate is very foolish.

No candidate will be immune. There will be back to back Repub ads attacking whichever candidate we have. The pundits will attack whichever candidate we put up.

We Dems will have to stick together. We should all say that the focus should be on Bush's true lies and not on silly things like hair or clothes or decibels in speech.

16. We've gotten it for months
This is the exact same stuff we've been listening to for months. "They're pickin' on Dean". It's not true. That speech was a spectacle. I've not said much about it because it seems kind of cruel at this point. But every single time the man makes a major gaffe, it's always the same response "They're pickin' on Dean." The media spent days on Kerry's f-word. They spent days on the stupid philly sandwich. His staff being divided. Firing his staff. All of it. Every little thing. And these weren't even policy things like most of Dean's gaffes were. Nobody is picking on him. This would have gone away faster if Dean hadn't made so many mistakes all along the way. He's not fit to be President and he never has been.

17. I will happen to Kerry
my big worry now is WHEN it will happen. Before the nomination, while there are others to step up and take over the front runner spot? Or will it be after the nomination? :scared:

I don't see Kerry winning southern states. If the press smears him during the general election and he loses a couple of swing states, it's all over.

18. To be blunt these answers scare the Hell out of me
They seem to fall into some aspect of three categories.

One, Dean wasn't targetted. All of the following appeared on major TV shows or in major news papers. A discussion of how funny it would be for Dean's "gay, small, women supporters" to be attacked by Gepharts "manly male ones with big necks" Source MTP Jan 11 Dr. Dean's wife is assailed for having a career of her own Source Dowd's column. We are called storm troopers (NYT), basement dwelling slobs (MTP Jan 11), nosering wearing (CNN and others), gay, small, women, and unmanly MTP). Now go ahead and look, restricting yourself to this month only, and see just what you can find about Kerry that is close to what I listed and sourced. Go ahead, try to find it.

Two, Kerry has been targetted in MA for years and always wins. The exact same thing could be said of Howard Dean. Dean won more elections in VT than Kerry has in MA. They both had one very tough race and Dean won his by a bigger margin than Kerry won his.

Three, Dean was uniquely inept. Again whistling past the grave yard.

This thread scares me shitless. It is clear that none of you have a clue what the media can do when it wants to. After Gore, the Wellstone memorial, and now Dean that is a level of denial that is awesome to behold.

One final thought. Those of you who live in states that are not IA, NH, or MA go out to a public place and ask 50 people who John Kerry is, what he stands for, and three things he has done. If you get more than 10 with accurate answers I will be honestly amazed. My point, is that no one knows these people. The national press has a blank slate to work with. They can, and will, do this to Kerry and the fact you people seem not to understand this scare me shitless.
