1. Is Baldick still a lobbyist?
Edited on Sat Jan-24-04 01:03 PM by eyesroll
Was Baldick still a lobbyist when he gave Edwards money? It's just listed "Dewey Square Group/Consultant" -- Dewey Square Group is a political consulting firm. They do consult with campaigns, so it would make sense for Edwards to have someone from that firm on board. I couldn't figure out whether they're also lobbyists (but a few of their principals have been lobbyists in the past, according to their bio).

Important questions.
Do we hold someone's lobbying past against them? If so, how long ago should they have given it up? If Baldick was a lobbyist 12 years ago, that's different from "I don't accept money from lobbyists but they can quit for a few months to help me." I'm not assuming either -- just throwing the idea out.

On edit: It looks like he was a lobbyist in 2000, and his firm engages in lobbying presently, according to your open-secrets link. But that is the last year for which data are available.

I guess this matters then:
1. Does NB still accept lobbying responsibilities?
2. If not, when did he stop?
3. How much influence over others in the firm -- ones who may lobby -- does he have, and vice versa?

5. From the, ahem, Fox story:
Nick Baldick, has been a registered lobbyist with clients like Blue Cross-Blue Shield and Burger King.

I'm not saying there isn't a story here. just think it's worth noting the use of the past tense. I know that Bush's cabinet, like Andy Card, lives and dies for auto industry, and for companies he once worked for.

Can't wait to see evidence that Baldick's the next Andy Card, or Paul O'Niel (viz alcoa).

6. You use Fox news and iowapresidentialwatch?
You know that Iowa Presidential Watch is a right wing attack site.

Iowa Presidential Watch's

The Democrat Candidates

Holding the Democrats accountable today, tomorrow...forever.

They also say:

Over the past year, the Democrat candidates have used biased, flawed, demeaning, misleading and down right false rhetoric to attack President Bush and his Administration. And IPW has reported it, cartooned it and kept a full record of it. Hence, our motto: "Holding the Democrats accountable..."

I hope you are proud of your work.

7. Wow, this is the 4th or 5th time this issue has been posted.
If this is the worse dirt that can be dug up on John Edwards, then I feel secure in continuing to give Senator Edwards my undying support.
Thanks to the original poster for renewing my faith in John Edwards.

11. OLD NEWS!!!
CNN mentioned this over FIVE FREAKING MONTHS AGO.

Continue your digging, it's pathetic.

Baldick is no longer a lobbyist, and besides, he basically ran Gore's campaign in 2000 as well, so get over it...

enough already, stop being so bitter. I wonder how badly Edwards must've beaten your candidate in Iowa for you to go to these extremes.

7. You may not post any material from extreme right-wing sources, specifically WorldNetDaily.com, Newsmax.com, FreeRepublic.com, and their ilk. Material from more "mainstream" conservative writers or sources, such as The Washington Times and Fox News, are permitted as long as the post includes a clear warning about the source. (For example: "WARNING: Please note that this article is written by George Will.")
