His surge is confined to Republicans sitting at home saying, "well, he's not all THAT bad", not that these people are actually going to vote for him or anything.

Lieberman is a well respected politician all across political lines. He has no hope for the nomination because of his support for the Iraq war. Nonetheless, if you really want a presidential ticket that best represents all Americans then it would be Lieberman and McCain. Both of these guys have a past of standing up to corrupting special interests and neither are afraid to buck the party line.
About the war... No there were no WMDs as we were led to believe. I support the concept of the war if not the execution, because it IS the duty of the US to free people from murderous dictators. I am well aware that we have propped them up in the past but that is not an argument for not toppling Saddam. Yes North Korea is worse but lets be realistic, a war there would be far more difficult. The only problem with our occupation is that many of our military leaders have chosen to treat all Iraqis as suspects. While this may have reduced casualties in the short term, it is costing us what Iraqi support we had to begin with. There have been notable exceptions of some intelligent and innovative Army commanders. In addition the USMC has released a plan for their takeover of the Sunni triangle that includes a great deal of implied criticism for the Army's techniques, many of which were taken from Israel of all places( I mean COME ON, the Israelis? Yeah theres a great success to copy). The Marines intend to go in with smaller more accurate arms as opposed to opening up with heavy or medium machine guns and taking out the shooter as well as civilians in the way. They will also not be destroying houses as some Army units have done (another wonderful failed tactic from the Israelis). This reduced use of firepower may well result in increased Marine casualties but then they are known for accepting larger casualties than the Army in order to accomplish the mission. Lets just hope it is not to late, and God bless the US Marines. I still hold out hope that this just might work.
So...back to Lieberman. Give the guy a break. He would make a great president.

What do you think would happen if Bush's 2 poodles- little Joe and Tony Blair- were ever locked in a room alone with Bush?

I don't remember a time when I thought he was speaking to me.
I see him as being very beholden to financial corporations.

17. Thank you for your reply. I was poking fun at his numbers, not at him |

I'm in the DU minority (or silent majority) who doesn't loathe every utterance out of Lieberman's mouth. I don't think he'd be a great president, but he would obviously be a much better president than what we got. His records on the budget, the environment, and fair taxation are very strong.
That said, I disagree with much of your post. You wrote: I am well aware that we have propped them (Iraq) up in the past but that is not an argument for not toppling Saddam. Yes North Korea is worse but lets be realistic, a war there would be far more difficult.
While our past support isn't an argument for leaving Saddam alone, it's not really an argument in favor of sending hundreds of thousands of our troops in harm's way, losing 500 so far and leaving thousands of them with life altering injuries.
Your argument that we should attack Iraq because attacking North Korea would be a whole lot tougher is strange. It reminds me of the old joke where the cop nabs a crook and asks him, "Why did you steal that old lady's radio?" and the crook replies "Because her TV was too heavy to pick up."
Containment was working, as the lack of WMDs clearly shows, so we didn't have to attack anybody. Actually, I'm less optimistic that containment will work/has worked with North Korea, but we should at least give it a full try.
For what it's worth, the Marines plan that you mention for pacifying Iraq has some elements in common with Wesley Clark's plan for getting us out of there. Both involve fighting the bad guys and quit acting like we're a damn empire trying to conquer the joint. That's what's getting our young people killed over there.
