Why won't Woodward confirm Felt is Deep Throat?

If Felt is now claiming he is Deep Throat, that should amount to a release of Woodward's pledge of confidentiality. Is it possible he really isn't Deep Throat? What explains Woodward's silence?

1. I heard Felt would have to go to Woodward and release him from

the agreement. Woodwards editor also has kept this secret. He isn't saying anything either. They won't talk unless Felt says they can. Maybe they have information Felt doesn't want to divulge if he releases them.

and the lawyer says Felt has been talking about being Deep Throat for several months now. The lawyer also interviewed Woodward for the Vanity Fair article. Maybe they are planning a disclosure in tomorrow's Washington Post once they speak personally to Felt.

Woodward and Bernstein were looking forward to being able to write the book of the century about the informant of one of the most notorious of all national crimes, only in the end to have "Deep Throat" uncover himself.
Felt basically took the glory and will write the book that will sell millions.
Woodward and Bernstein have no more glory left in this story.
I think it is what some would call "poetic justice" eh?

I think Woodward is smart. He can write the book when the man has died. And this time he doesn't have to hide under anyone's bed. And he can retell the story much better. The man may have changed his feelings a great deal since the 1970s about what he did. Woodward shouldn't be involved. It is not his story at this juncture.

Interesting timing as well. I wonder if he's the real one too. At the beginning part of the year I remember reading about Deep Throat and that he was ill. Does anybody know if this guy is ill any? Did he come forward himself about being Deep Thorat or did someone find out themselves and went to him about it and he confessed?
