2. I'm not sure
I'm waiting for Woodward to confirm it. I suppose he probably is, but the lawyer also says Felt has no specific memories of Watergate but has only talked about being Deep Throat.

5. No specific memories?
Great.

Take a senile old man's rantings and make sure they're made public while Ratface Squatter In The White House is having what's comically called "a press conference."

Right.

Timing, as all the great comics will tell you, is all..................

4. Naw
This is just more smoke getting blown, I think.

There was a signal between Deep Throat and Woodstein that necessarily involved someone residing in a place where such a signal could be seen. Felt never lived in that area.

Someone else did, though - and even though he's dead, I think he was Deep Throat and Woodstein will never reveal the identity.

6. My opinion won't change the facts
Felt has always been one of the leading suspects. There is no reason to doubt his word.

Why believe him, then? The logic works both ways.

11. Hoover died in May of 1972.
Go read up on the history of Watergate. You are really missing some big bits of information if you think Hoover was at all involved in the matter of Deep Throat.

24. Ok ,I missed the timeline on that but........
it could be that Felt was pissed at being passed over for the Directors job.

26. No
The Director's job was always political, and Felt was career. Not a chance he'd have gotten it.

You gotta read up on this stuff - it's absolutely riveting. Far more devious than any mystery you could ever imagine. Alas, it's also an indelible and shameful part of our country's history.

13. J. Edgar Hoover died on 2 May 1972;
the Watergate break-in was on 17 June 1972.

The Director of the FBI (or rather, the acting Director) at the time of the Watergate break-in would have been L. Patrick Gray.

9. DU should stop entertaining belief as a substitute
for reason and logic. There is no way in hell I would know the answer to this. And speculation allows the republicans to claim bias, only without the facts can bias exist.

Until Pam's able to come up with a line like, "Do you mind if I smoke while you eat?" as the delivery boy is ..............

Well, let's just say that Linda was The Greatest.

17. There's a fine documentary about Deep Throat called "Deep Throat."
Edited on Tue May-31-05 12:45 PM by elperromagico
I never could figure out what it had to do with Watergate but it's a helluva flick.

All of the facts presented in that film show that Linda Lovelace - and only Linda Lovelace - could have been Deep Throat. All this talk about Mark Felt and Pam Anderson is mere speculation.

The country is circling the drain as we speak, being run
by ignorant and corrupt fools, and we're supposed to obsess
over this ancient history instead of noticing all the current
damage being done.

20. I pretty much agree with you.
It doesn't matter who brought down Nixon; what matters is that Nixon was brought down.

Instead of asking who brought down Tricky Dick, why don't we ask who (or what) can bring down Dubya?

23. Yes, but
I still believe a lot of the crap in "All the Presidents Men" about flower pots & newspapers was made up. I also believe Woodward had other key sources, such as Al Haig.

25. Robert F. Bennett, who Nixon himself thought was the guy
page 434 Citizen Hughes by Michael Drosnin.

Also, 'Throat is a composite of many sources Woodward was utilizing. Robert F. Bennett in Bob Harris' article says it all
"What's missing is an understanding of Deep Throat, Woodward's garage-lurking source who guided the reporters to some of their biggest leads. If he was just a concerned citizen, great. But if Deep Throat had his own agenda, then he used the Washington Post to shape the story for his own purposes and got away clean.

"I have told Woodward everything I know about the Watergate case, except the Mullen Company's tie to the CIA."--Robert F. Bennett, testifying before House Special Committee on Intelligence, July 2, 1974.

Robert Bennett was the head of Robert R. Mullen and Co., a CIA front headquartered in the very same building as the CIA's Domestic Operations Division." Bennett now sits in Congress as SENATOR Robert F. Bennett, R-UT.

And with Woodwards naval intelligence background, well, just read this and speculate why the military would want Nixon out of office
