Why doesn't the press use "sic" when quoting Bush?
http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/200506/s1381569.htm
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/N31687720.htm

and various others:
<snip from ABC>

United States President George W Bush has lashed out at Amnesty International, suggesting it has been hoodwinked by "people who hate America".

President Bush dismisses Amnesty's report into human rights, which compares the Guantanamo Bay prison camp to a gulag.

"I'm aware of the Amnesty International report, and it's absurd," he said.

President Bush says the allegations about mistreatment have been made by prisoners who hate the United States.

"It seemed like to
me they based some of their decisions on the word of, and the allegations by people who were held in detention, people who hate America, people that had been trained in some instances to disassemble - that means not tell the truth," he said.

Amnesty last week described the US detention camp as "the gulag of our time".
</snip>

(Silly me. I thought "disassemble" meant "taking apart," as in a country. What is absurd is that none of the reporting news services seems to have the nerve to use the term "sic" when quoting Bush. Hey Stupid: the word is "dissemble.")

7. Interesting
Why didn't they do it for "disassembling" I wonder? It was particularly egregious since he thereafter defined it for the press corp. What a jerk.

3. Our fearless leader
I also watched the president's pep talk this morning and was amazed at his audacity. Liar came to mind more than a few times and a feeling of disgust. As for disasembling:-) he is the expert.

6. The whole thing with Bush's malaprops
is probably part of some secret long-term plan to convince everybody that proper English is just 'too much hard work', and we should just adopt the much simpler Newspeak.
