NYT Downing Street story on the way?
Edited on Thu Jun-02-05 02:19 AM by Carla in Ca
Here is perhaps another major newspaper ready to go with the minutes memo...from Hoffmania <http://www.hoffmania.com/blog/2005/06/nyt_downing_str.html>

Viewer Lawton called the New York Times...

The Times news desk told me today that they have been waiting on cross checks and verification of sources before they print this bombshell as they did not want to have to issue a retraction in the future.

They further stated that I could expect a full story within the next week.

We're not quite sure what they're waiting for. It's documented. It's out there. It's real. It's a fact. All it needs to be is reported.

We'll be watching, Times.

2. I say Newsweek should ram this whole Downing St. Memo
affair so far up Bush's ass that he chokes on it.

8. Here is my letter to CNN
But I just looked at the address and it says 'journal@c-span.org'
I know I got the address from the CNN site.

"WHY won’t you address questions concerning the Downing Street memo? Are you that much of a patsy that you won’t say something that may rock the boat? Come on now and get some guts. The average Democratic Joe is reporting it to all their friends and family. What are they going to say when they realize that the mass media are a bunch of sissies?"

I think we should start being a slight more stern when we send letters!

9. Let's hope it's a good one, people.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see a big front page expose on Bush's lies and distortions, but I'm also leery about this.

Is the NYT, voice of the establishment, really going to be on the side of taking Shrub down?

I'm hoping that they are taking their time and making sure their facts all stand up--they don't want to be Rathered or Newsweeked and that this article will be a blockbuster.

11. The administration came out looking bad IMO, about
Newsweek. The argument about being afraid to get trashed by the WH is weak right now. After the Rather incident, I could ALMOST understand it, but now that they tried to do it to Newsweek and failed MISERABLY, the ball is in the media's court.

I'm so looking forward to this, it's like an early X Mas present. With Kerry stating he's addressing the memo, we've got a lot to look forward to.

reporting (instead of just printing group-think from the wires), the New York Times still sets the standard, despite all its faults. I'm putting my money on them doing it and doing it right, airtight, and big.

13. This is a pleasant surprise
We get the Sunday Times only and I haven't seen any real news in there for a while. I was considering canceling our subscription but now I'll hold out for the forthcoming article.

Thanks! Hope springs eternal!

17. Presumably, the NYT wants key people to make statements
Presumably, the NYT wants key people to make statements that the paper can quote. This is what newspapers do, so that people have a chance to express remorse, explain themselves or keep digging a deeper hole for themselves.

The entertainment value is greater if the key parties keep inventing new and bigger lies to cover up their crimes. As is the political price that must be paid when these lies eventually unravel. :)
