Why is the media ignoring the Downing Street memo ?
Do they really think it is not newsworthy? When our troops are dying every day in a war that was begun with a stream of lies, but which is now being justified as fighting for the freedom of the Iraqi people, why would this not be a bombshell?

Or do they think that it is no longer important because circumstances have changed and the people have "re-elected" Bush so there is really no need to pursue the story? Yet, thirty years later, they are still reporting on Watergate?

1. Because they are a branch of the Govt/Corp/Media complex.
What is good for one branch is good for the others. What's bad for one is bad for the others.

The DSM would be bad, hence no coverage.

2. because
whoever "breaks the story" will be immediately labeled a dirty liberal and their career will be shot to hell by those in charge. Fear is a powerful tool when used correctly

3. The Downing minutes PROVES the media coverup of the lead up to war.
Edited on Thu Jun-02-05 09:16 AM by blm
Landay and Strobel had reports out in Oct 2002 that included statements from CIA analysts angry that Bush and Cheney were "cooking the intel books" to justify attacking Iraq.

The broadcast media ignored the report COMPLETELY and few papers included it in their editions, and even those buried it.

This is a media failure to inform the citizens of the truth in their efforts to cover up for a criminal White House.

They are well aware of their guilt and that is why they carefully orchestrate stories that blame the Democrats for being ineffective in stopping Bush and the GOP, all the while THEY are the ones working 24/7 to distract the American people and protect BushInc.

7. There lies the problem, the media will also look bad by this document
They don't want to expose their own weakness and the fact that they have been whores to the regime.

8. Bingo...
The were complicit in the whole sordid mess of war and deception. They can't stand to look in the mirror. I recall all of the "embedded" reporters riding on military vehicles and reporting on the "war" on their way to the big "Shock and Awe" Show. We haven't forgotten. They can't handle the truth.

4. It is because of their partnership with the right wing. However, in this
partnership they don't share authority. Right wing media is 'guided'.

When you say 'the media', you really mean corporate propaganda spreaders. Others in the media - news and analysis - are covering it, but corporate media is not.

We are being cheated because of the metamorphosis of news networks to right wing propaganda spreaders and news inhibitors and destroyers.

There are even Dems in leadership who are not talking about it.

There don't seem to be many Brits who are talking about it.

The emperor has no clothes.

5. But I recall thinking just before the election of 1972....
Why are the media not reporting on this Watergate story? Why do they act like it is not newsworthy? But, we know what happened later...

6. Maybe someone should have mentioned blowjobs in the memo.
Apparently the media loves reporting on any piece of typed up trash in that department.

9. The Further Adventures of Kent State and Shelby Shapely, Ace Reporters
Hard at work as America's crack journalists, Kent and Shelby mull over the decision to an in-depth, detailed story on the Downing Street Memo:

Shelby: Kent, shouldn't we do something about this Downing Street memo?
Kent: Nah, writing stories about city road repairs are beneath us, Shelby
Shelby: No, Kent, I don't think it's about that at all. I think this is a big story, sorta...I think...
Kent: Did Karl fax us anything about it?
Shelby: No...
Kent: Then why sweat it? Just sit back and relax. If it is a big story, Karl will tell so. And he'll give us the details, too!
Shelby: Oh, O.K.! What should we do now?
Kent: I don't know about me, but you could get me another Mai-Tai...
