Symbolman flushes Bible Down Toilet online as Protest against BushCo Abuse
In the interest of fairness to the muslim world and to defuse the situation we felt that it was only fair to Flush a Bible down the toilet..

Now they can call off the Jihad and no more people have to die (nor does Newsweak need any more White House phony heat) from riots, just from Bush's Major Profit War Machine..

It's The return of our Weekly Radio Show, created for Memorial Day and our first in a year - we have a lot of fun and don't take any prisoners, we're bareknuckled liberals - have a listen, we've got all the formats you need, even an RSS feed for you Pod folks out there (simply download to Pod and go rollerblading, mow the lawn, ignore pesky ambulances, it's a free country)

Here's the link:

http://www.tbtmradio.com/geeklog/public_html/index.php

Please spread the word, Takebackthemedia.com is Flushing Bibles for YOUR Freedom of Speech (I know, when the ACLU defended the KKK who marched in Skokie, Ill, home of many jews who were internment victims I didn't understand it either - but the truth is, if THEY don't have freedom of speech, then neither do WE) We also did this to inflame those right wing folks that are just calling it a Book when they flush the Koran.

While at the site enjoy our over 50 animations we've created to fight the Bush admin - we've put everything we have on the line to fight these bastards...

Enjoy!

4. By the lack of response may I venture that many DU'ers
...do not support desecration of any holy book, no matter the religion?

8. Or ANY book for that matter
Just as with any other book, disagreement with the contents does not make it right to destroy the material.

13. Same here
and if you listened to the show you might just understand what we did..

think "Orson Welles".. or just listen to the show..

This is what's really funny about this thread, if you listened to the show you wouldn't be making these comments.

I'd meant for this to happen to the right wing "LITERALISTS" as they are too stupid to get it, so I didn't expect these kind of comments here at the DU..

it's pretty funny really..

14. Or find the "symbolism" juvenile and a little confused.
Edited on Fri Jun-03-05 06:57 AM by Inland
I mean, what do you say about toidy? "Yea, all gone"? Or, "good for you, join the pantheon of liberal heroes"?

And what exactly is the meaning? If flushing is bad for the koran, why do it for the bible? Or is it that the religion is bad, which is more like Gitmo than unlike? Or is the symbolism merely, we will now do it to you, in which case it isn't really symbolism at all?

Even the christians aren't particularly interested in commenting, and it's their book. Nothing more boring than a failed provocation, is there?

17. explanation from other thread
- May 9 edition of Newsweek reports Koran flushed down the toilet.
- McClellan says Newsweek has damaged the image of the US, caused deaths, and fell short of journalistic standards
- Newsweek retracts their article: http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=10000103&sid=aSz...

So Newsweek is at fault for reporting that we're desecrating the Muslim Holy book down in Guantanamo. The message is that we should be more thoughtful about what we report, and not report anything that could possibly make the US look bad in anybody else's eyes. So if we violate human rights, Geneva convention, whatever - just DON'T TALK ABOUT IT. Amnesty International speaks up about Guantanamo, and they're written off as "absurd". http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/20050531/w...

Now Symbolman and Stranger come along and "flush" a Bible on the radio. Their theory is while the Koran flushing was downplayed and dismissed, would flushing a Bible down a toilet be a different story?

Contrary to what you'd think, some right wingers have no qualms about trashing anybody's holy books. Instapundit said he didn't think there was anything immoral about flushing the Bible or Koran, and that doing so was not torture. Maybe he'd have a different opinion if he were sitting in Gitmo and experiencing this first hand (but I digress)... http://instapundit.com/archives/023026.php

Instapundit also quoted David Price in saying that the Gitmo detainees are trained to lie, and that it's even in their instruction manuals if they're detained: lie about flushing the Koran. I'm not kidding:
http://semirandomramblings.blogspot.com/2005/05/newswee...

So the logic here is that Al Queda are trained to lie, so the Koran toilet flushing thing never happened. I don't buy it. Taking it a step further, supposing no Koran was flushed at Gitmo, we still have had more than a few reports (and pictures) that torture is occuring there - yet the torture goes on.

Newsweek lied, people died. That's what David Price says. Never mind the US's part in invading these countries and the torture going on in Gitmo, people are dying because Newsweek ran a story reporting on what is going on. It's not that we're torturing people and we shouldn't be doing that or that we've invaded countries that don't want us there. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

The whole idea that Sym and Stranger would "flush" a Bible is absurd: Will Bible-thumpers kill liberals for such an ungodly act? Would Bible flushing be met with more criticism than Koran flushing? What justifications and arguments would arise from such an act?

Well, some folks here bought it hook, line, and sinker...

"Childish!"

"Insensitive!"

"Stupid!"

Which is it going to be, folks? Do you want a true free media, or would you rather fashion the First Amendment to your liking?

Saying that a mock Bible-flushing will incense the Muslims is the same exact argument used by the Whitehouse to shut down the Newsweek article.

So Newsweek shouldn't have reported the Koran flushing?

Symbolman and Stranger should have their thread shut down because you think what they may have said or did was not to your liking?

Or let's take a page from the Republican playbook: criticize and castigate the person you don't agree with: "Can't he take a hint?", "Childish!"

Our Constitution is going away bit by bit because of attitudes like this. Shut up. Don't speak. Don't say anything to rock the boat. Don't offend. Be politically correct.

This is how you've been trained over the last twenty years by an increasingly Corporate media that serves its own needs. Don't question anything. Instead, be a rebel by buying our shoes and clothes.

Don't make statements about George Bush. Else you can't play your song on MTV.

It just goes on and on and on... and that's the big trouble with fighting it. We're so brainwashed, I honestly don't know what it would take to get folks to step outside their Corporate existence and make their own decisions for once.

Maybe Symbolman and Stranger should retract their radio show? If they do, then we know it really IS over.

9. I was told I could repost by the admin - I posted this on Gen as well
so if that's okay with you I thought maybe some folks hadn't had a chance to see or hear our work or show, so naturally I reposted..

I understand that some of you new folks don't know anything about Takebackthemedia.com so you have decided that I'm some idiot that's looking for traffic or playing games or whatever.

Our first year we recieved 100 million hits, I've been on the O'Reilly show once, on MSNBC's Joe Scarborough's show twice - and plenty of people here saw those episodes - the last time I was on Joe the Scar's show it was for my entry in the MoveOn.org's Bush in 30 Seconds contest (one of 14 finalists out of 1300 entries) where I got sent to NYC to meet Moby, Al Franken, Michael Moore, and our pal Janeane Garofalo. Each time I get on TV or meet with stars or folks in the progressive movement I push the DU as THE place to be.

I've been here since about 2000 (and I can see by your personal info that you've just shown up) and have even partied with the admins during the Democratic Convention (as well as other great DU'rs I always wanted to meet) in Boston last year, while we spent the year making a film about Electronic Voting - which I invested all of my money into.

We've been sued for $500,000 dollars by Michael Savage, and Robert Greenwald came to my rescue.

We boycotted Limbaugh and cost him most probably millions in advertising, if not hundreds of thousands.

I've laid coffins at the feet of enlistment centers and stood face to face with the Recruiter and refused to back down - I was drafted in 1971 and am a Vietnam Era Veteran.

IF you took the time to check out the FIFTY animations I've created (and I've won awards in Hollywood) FOR FREE you might get the idea that I'm serious about taking the media back and that I'm not some stupid little shit egging people on or trying to puff up my image.

I don't need to. I have a purpose for doing this, even if you don't realise it.

We're proud of the work we do, and we just launched our radio show after spending a year working on a major film.

How about giving me a little respect.

Or is Intolerance the norm for democrats now as well as the right wing?

10. Now THAT
Edited on Fri Jun-03-05 04:44 AM by symbolman
thecai, is FUNNY :)

We really should be calling Bush Co for what they are "Corporatists" - if you read some of Eisenhower's statements you realise that the right wing was pretty decent in a lot of ways and reachable..

These guys are NOT, and I'm Hoping that the "moderate" RWingers will just maybe entertain the notion of Impeachment..

If the media wanted a REAL story, it would be the resignation of Bush with these hounds nipping at his heels.

In the meantime I'm trying to pull the same kind of "stunts" (this is just one of them) that Abbie Hoffman pulled, like "levitating" the Pentagon, etc.. to bring attention to the issue and inflame the right wingers, THEN tell them they don't know the difference between REALITY and FANTASY (IE we didn't really flush a bible, all sound effects, but they have been PUNK'D before they realise it) :)

My favorite was Hoffman throwing money on the floor of the NY stock exchange and watching all the brokers dive on dollar bills..

We cruised around in a 1937 Rolls ROyce convertible in both LA, Santa Barbara and San Fran, dressed as Bush and Cheney throwing wads of 911 bills out the back (and they looked REAL) - we even got a pic in the AP doing that - hell, Proud Patriot, one of the mods on this Discussion area had me take pictures from the car of all the DU'rs in that parade..

Never got to see those yet, hey PP, do you still have those pics?

Love your humor my friend..
