WASHINGTON, June 2 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Two prominent Watergate figures, Pat Buchanan and Chuck Colson, have characterized Deep Throat informant W. Mark Felt as a turncoat. The two have also been identified as key players in an Arlington National Cemetery scandal involving an annual ceremony celebrating the birthday of Confederate President Jefferson Davis.

The scandal involves a secret political slush fund of $500,000 that was using the restoration of the Confederate Monument at Arlington National Cemetery as a cover for a dirty tricks operation, according to John Edward Hurley, president of the Washington-based Confederate Memorial Association.

Hurley said that he was also suspicious of another $500,000 that Philip Morris had donated to the American Defense Institute. An attorney and board member of the American Defense Institute has served as legal counsel in litigation against the Confederate Memorial Association that has spanned the last 17 years and caused the closing of the century-old Confederate Memorial Hall museum, located just four blocks from the Washington Post building . The ADI has been marshalling voter turn-out for military personnel.

2. Shine the light on all the cockroaches of the Watergate era - watch
them skittle, scrape and run for cover. Interesting how many are in the public eye in prominent positions.

4. Is it me or is this article poorly written? Since Buchanan
Edited on Thu Jun-02-05 07:26 PM by higher class
is such a preacher of morality, I decided to try to rewrite this to help me understand.

Buchanan and David Eno are members of the Sons of Confederate Veterans.
David Eno is a speech arranger for Colson, the born-again aide from Watergate affair who served a short time in jail for his participation.
The Sons of Confederate Veterans have used the services of lawyer Kirk Lyons who has also represented the Aryan Nation and the Ku Klux Klan.

The next annual ceremoney honoring confederate veterans is next Sunday. (GWB reinstated the delivery of a wreath to the ceremony two years ago?)

The Sons of Confederate Veterans at some time in the past sued John Hurley (President of the Confederate Memorial Association) as well as the Confederate Memorial Association. . Reason not clear.

Hurley claims that Buchanan is senior advisor to the Southern Partisan magazine. Hurley claims the Souther Partisan magazine contributed (at least) $30,000 to the lawsuit? against the Confederate Memorial Association (by the Sons of Confederate Veterans?).

Hurley claims that Eno improperly used his influence as an employee of the National Credit Union Administrations legal department There is something else involving the Mid-Atlantic Credit Union in Maryland, but it is so poorly explained that I will skip it. All in all, it sounds like the claim is money laundering.

The focus of the ‘scandal’ seems to donations ending up in a secret slush fund purportedly for the restoration of a the Confederate Moneument at Arlington National Cemetary, but used for dirty tricks, according to the writer. The amount named is $500,000.

Hurley is also suspicious of another $500,000 that Philip Morris donated to the American Defense Institute. An attorney for ADI has been in litigation against Hurley and the Confederate Memorial Association (Hurley’s Assn.) for 17 years.. This lawsuit caused the closing of the Confederate Memorial Hall Museum. The ADI marshalls military personnell voter-turnout.

The speaker at the upcoming ceremony is Dr. G. Gil Watson, a board member of the Uncle Remus Memorial Association.

Summary: Hurley believes that money donated for restoration of the memorial at Arlington is a cover for dirty tricks. Dirty tricks against whom? (To be used against Hurley and the Confederate Memorial Association)? (Or collected, but not given to the restoration, but used instead for unrelated dirty tricks)?

Wake me when it is written up by someone else.
