Clark on MTP tomorrow - Sample Q&A (help me out)
Let's do what his handlers aren't. Anticipating the Russert landmines and diffusing them.

TR: "General Clark in Thursday's debate, you seemed to have trouble with the question of why you didn't distance yourself from Michael Moore's reckless comments regarding Bush's "desertion" from the National Guard. Are you finally prepared to condemn Mr. Moore this morning on MTP?"

GC: _________________

TR: "General Clark let's look at New Hampshire polls from a week ago where you were in a statistical tie for first with Howard Dean. And let's look at the polls this morning where you've fallen quite a ways, and now within the MOE of John Edwards. How do you account for your massive downward slide?"

GC: "Tim I don't look at polls, I'm busy getting my message out. We've had unbelievable response and record crowds..."

1. Dont forget
TR: General Clark, recently it has come to light that you had something to do with the tragedy in Waco. Would you care to explain your insidious actions?

GC: Blow me Tim. You know better than to read that Freeper crap.

TR: General Clark: I know I asked you this question the last time you were on, but have you figured out why General Shelton thinks you are such a terrible person? Or why you were fired?

GC: I'm going to come across that table and beat your ass till you YEARGH like Howard... and it wont be because you're happy.

TR: General Clark: The other night on CNN, Bob Dole said he supported you. Doesnt that make you a republican.

GC: *gets up*

TR: YEARGH!

3. I don't suppose
"Eat Shit" is a very diplomatic answer, so I guess I shouldn't play this game.

I did like how Jamie Rubin worded the response to the MMoore question from Wolf Blitzer. Something to the effect of "That's not how the General chooses to run his campaign - he's focusing on his own record and what he can do for the country." And then when pressed as to whether he, himself had looked into the charges (why he would, I have no clue, he's a Foreign Policy advisor), he said, "No, have YOU?"

Wolf, stammers.... "Uhhh, I'm the one asking the questions around here..."

4. Russert likes the "compare and contrast" questions...
For example, on Nov 1, 2002 you said this about George W Bush. But on April 5, 2003, you said this. (Shos clip on the screen) Which is it?

People say you flip-flop a lot on the issues. For example, blah...blah..blah... but then on blah..blah..blah..you said something to contradict that. How do you explain this contradictory positions?

6. Here you go
Something along these lines:

"Tim, I guess I have to apologize for not speaking in soundbites so that my quotes cannot be taken out of context. I'm getting better at that, though. I truly am trying to help you journalists out."

7. Tim, I checked, and Mr. Moore seems to think he can ...
Edited on Sat Jan-24-04 05:11 PM by gulliver
... make a case that Bush was missing for part of his duty in the National Guard. Maybe you should check into it yourself. You are in the press not me. I'm sure I have a lot of supporters who say a lot of things about George W. Bush's National Guard Service during Vietnam, his drunk driving conviction, and the fact that Ken Lay was one of his main political benefactors. I hope you don't expect me to disprove and disavow everything anybody says about George W. Bush. He's a big boy. If he doesn't like what Moore and other people are saying, George W. Bush can speak for himself.

8. And don't forget about the reward that is out there for anyone,
Anyone, one single person who can come forward and say he served one single day with Bush during the months in question.

is a winner for me, especially, about disavowing every bit of slander ever spoken about W and W. is a big boy.

But I'd still like to see Clark kick Tim's ass.

10. he should tell Russert he tried to find out where Bush was
but he couldn't, because the press failed to report it fully.

Then ask Russert whether NBC ever asked Bush where he was.

12. Well, Tim, this race is still very fluid. I think the big lesson ...
... of Iowa is that front-runner status in this primary is subject to change. We are doing quite well in New Hampshire against long odds. I'm not from New England as Senator Kerry and Governor Dean are, but I hope the voters in New Hampshire will at least listen to what I have to say. If they support me after that, then great. If they don't, that's their right.

My main focus is replacing George W. Bush. I think I can do that more surely than any of my primary opponents. I can bring new ideas and new people into our party and help to reinvigorate it so that we never again end up with an administration like we have now.

13. Mr. Russert, my campaign is a free speech zone.
Edited on Sat Jan-24-04 05:42 PM by boloboffin
People are free to speak their mind, and Mr. Moore is quite capable of defending his remarks.

President Bush could help end all of these questions about his service by releasing his military records in full. Until he does, he will be haunted by the questions Mr. Moore raises.

Russert: So you will not disavow Moore's remarks.

I will defend to the death his right to say what he wishes in America.

Second question:

I'm confident in the ability of the good people of New Hampshire to choose the best candidate, and I'm confident that I'm that candidate. Polls are fine as far as they go, but polls didn't give us the final outcome of the Iowa causus. Let's leave the winner to the voters.

These are great answers. Why can't people hire DUers instead of Chris Lehane?
