All the President's Men could help raise Downing St Memo to '-gate' status

Many among us have no sense of Watergate, smoking guns or Deep Throat.

I think a revival of All the President's Men, the book or movie, would help define Watergate for those unaware of it and crystallize how important the Downing Street Memo is.

It helps that some people are pounding the issue, like former Senator George McGovern - - -

and it would help to give those who don't know Watergate a thorough tutorial - the movie or the book would be perfect.

I couldn't find the movie anywhere here today (Minnesota) - not for rental or sale. I'd really like to stock the local libraries with copies, for starters.

2. It has been on

the cable movie channels quite a bit lately. The book would be best. Someone posted just a little while ago that Larry King just did two hours with Dan Rather and Woodward and Bernstein and that it was great and informative. Check for repeats of that show.

by the The Washington Post Staff, at a used bookstore the other day.
Just the book cover gets attention. :)

13. my feelings on the -gate trend

is that pushing DSM as another gate would actually diminish it's power. the fact is the whole -gate trend has really been played out. there are so many, that it is likely the public would just dismiss it as another rowdy call to arms over nothing.

DSM is serious enough .. relevant and important enough, that i think it can start a new type of scandal. maybe in the future people will amend words with the suffix -memo to indicate superior scandal?
