Army Guard: Military Portrayal '100 Percent Untrue'

POSTED: 9:05 pm EDT June 1, 2005
UPDATED: 9:09 pm EDT June 1, 2005

NEWARK, N.J. -- The first Army reservist to be freed after serving time for his role in the Abu Ghraib prisoner abuse scandal says he is a good person who was under tremendous stress in Iraq.

Javal S. Davis was released from military prison Sunday after serving less than four months for mistreating detainees. In his first interview since being freed, the former Army sergeant said Wednesday that the horrific conditions in and around Abu Ghraib -- open sewage, rotting body parts and constant fear of death from rockets and bombs - would "drive the most docile soldier from

`Gomer Pyle' into `Full Metal Jacket."'

It was a city of lost souls," he said of the prison, which was once used by Saddam Hussein's regime to torture and execute its foes. "It's a very dark, gloomy, dirty, dank place. Words can't describe it. You had to be there. It was very, very bad. Sewage, body parts rotting outside - you name it, it was there."

snip--
"I don't believe it should have been trumped up the way it was," he said. "I don't believe it should have been spread around the world. That alone escalated the danger for other soldiers, the media coverage alone."

His father, Jonathan Davis, remains convinced that the U.S. military and the Bush administration used his son and other low-level guards at the prison as scapegoats to deflect responsibility from higher-ups.

The damage done to everyone involved in this "War on Terror" bullshit is so fucked up for all involved,if they LIVE through it! Wonder how long before this soldier admits the MEDIA should have told more instead of not showing the truth ?
When will he face the fact of the STRESS "detainees" were in ?
Guess, he does not remember all the dead detainees and the rapes, etc.

damn, this is crazy !
I am pissed at him too ....
he does not have a clue, still ?
why are most of the soldiers you hear or see with the torture shit , well not so smart ?
