GM to recall over 291,000 Saturns

1. Because a defective tail light is not as big a deal as stallling?
Of course the stalling thing seems to be a rare issue, and I'd happily buy a Prius today if I had the money, but doing a big recall for a minor issue like that instead of doing a sercice bulliten and handling it on an individual basis makes me confident in the integrity of Saturn and in thier cars. Which is cool, 'cause I have one of thier cars. :)

What I want to know is why the press hasn't made a bigger deal out of really f'd up cars and thier safety issues. the '00-'02 Focus had a problem with *wheels coming off while driving* and that was mentioned in the automotive section of the paper, but I don't think I ever saw anything about it on the TV news.

2. Because ever since the whole Explorer/Firestone tire incidents

5. Hell yes I remember the Pinto!
Growing up my family had a Pinto wagon and an AMC Javelin that stalled out at freeway speeds. It's a wonder kid sis and I survived to adulthood.

4. I only saw that in a sidebar in BUSINESSWEEK
Quite hush hush for what might be the most severe mechanical failure a wheeled vehicle can experience.
