Clinton's Impeachment: Blowback, So Soon?
You've got to wonder, as calls for Bush's impeachment begin to resonate around the country, whether the Republicans' incredible short-sightedness in impeaching Clinton for lying about his sex life won't come back--in a hurry--to bite them in the ass. By lowering the bar for what constitutes an impeachable offense to include evasiveness as a witness giving testimony in a civil deposition, the Republicans have already thoroughly painted themselves into a moral corner. If the standard for impeachment is absolute Presidential truthfulness about ALL things, and if Bush, Cheney, Rice, Rummy, Powell et al lied to the congress and the American people about Iraq's non-existant WMD and al-Qaeda connections, they MUST be impeached by the Republican majority congress. Even if you can somehow convince yourself that the ends--our disastrous invasion and occupation of Iraq--justify the means, Bush lied and people died. If the Congress does not move quickly to impeach, they should send a formal letter of apology to Bill Clinton, and to the American people. The double standard is all too apparent.

7. Regardless...

..unless the Dems get the House back in '06, the "talk" is just talk. Keep your fingers crossed, but I don't think such hopes are very realistic at this point.

13. It could happen if we demand paper ballots and hand counting and
REFUSE to allow right wing corporations to conduct and pay for the exit polling and if we REFUSE to allow right wing corporations to call the election and if we REFUSE to allow the Supreme Court to act by declaration on behalf of the citizens in an anti-constitutional way.

Demanding paper ballots and hand counting is possible.

4. I mean, after all

How can you possibly compare the national tragedy and trauma of Clinton getting a b.j., to something as silly and trivial as an illegal war, where thousands of U.S. soldiers and innocent Iraqis have died? One has to set ones priorities, ya know.

8. O.K. -
Then - how about some JUSTICE? Compared to Bush and his atrocities, Clinton looks like a Boy Scout.

9. I don't see any point in revenge, but it would be a very amusing
irony if Bush were now impeached. He has already committed far more serious crimes than lying about a BJ.

12. The Clinton impeachment was pure payback for Nixon
and was the definition of a witch hunt. In the end, Clinton was either a choirboy or exceptionally careful, and all they found was a high schoolish affair that was initiated by an aide, not Clinton himself.

I'm sure all the right wing pundits are going to shriek "payback! Revenge!" and "sore losers!" but the truth is that the whole Bush team HAS committed high crimes, the worst of which was the destruction of our reputation regarding the Geneva Conventions.

I hope there is an impeachment. I hope it results in removal from office, a trial for treason, and multiple imprisonments. I just don't think it should be discussed NOW, not with the neocon and DLC congress in session.

Doing it now will result in a failed impeachment, and they won't be able to repeat it in 2006. That's why there is agitation to do it NOW.

14. G*ddamn! This is one of the best threads in recent memory!!!
This is exactly how I feel: it's Put-up or Shut-up time for the GOP and it's too late for them to Shut-up!

Remember the Republicans who, with misty eyes, asked rhetorically on the House floor "How can I explain to my 5-year old son/grandson that the President lied?" F*ck you, teary-eyed bastards, you explain THIS lie and THIS lying president. You explain to your "sons and grandsons" how YOUR president lied us into a war costing billions of dollars and over 100,000 lives. DO IT NOW!, I'm waiting...

YOU can also explain to the rest of us WHY Clinton's "lie" was oh-so-damning and necessitated his removal from office, yet, to date, no Republican in Congress has expressed concern about the LYING Bush and the costs of THAT LIE. DO IT NOW!, I'm waiting...

And while I'm at it, I want EVERY Democrat who voted for this war to step forward and say, "I was mislead by the President...I'm deeply hurt and concerned that MY vote to go to war was based on the LIES of George W. Bush," (even thought we suspect many of them did so to avoid the "liberal" label). What are the neo-Cons going to say? "Hah, you're not really 'deeply hurt and concerned' because you knew all along that Bush was lying..." ???What kind of response would that be? They can't have it both ways as this would only confirm that the neo-Cons too knew Bush was lying. DO IT NOW, Congressional Democrats. Go on record that you now feel you were mislead into voting for this war by the LYING President! I'm waiting...

Put that LYING SOB under oath, in public, and without Dick there to hold his hand, and ask him the questions WE ALL want answered. DO IT NOW!...I'm waiting...

When Kerry brings these minutes up on the floor of the Senate next week, I'm going to be all over my two GOP senators like a fly on dung on a hot summer day, asking them to explain how they could vote to remove Clinton from office while ignoring the Bush LIES!!!

It's time for the holier-than-thou Republicans to "walk the walk." Otherwise from here on out, GOP will mean "Gross Obnoxious hyPocrites"!!!!

:grr:

15. Amen to that

And what pisses me off, is that ultimately, Clinton's lie had no effect on anything, other than his relationship with his wife. Which is a personal matter, and which did NOT result in the death and maiming of thousands of soldiers and innocent civilians, and the trashing of our nations reputation throughout the world. Which will take years to redeem, if it can be redeemed at all. What right have we to point a finger at Third World nations for "Human Rights Abuses", when we torture and abuse prisoners, and disrespect their beliefs? The hypocrisy of the Republicans gets me physically nauseated.

16. Excellent Point
Which will be well used, I'm sure, when trying to get Congress to initiate an impeachment.

Kicked :kick: and recommended!
