I've come to the conclusion that events of this past month have pushed things to a tipping point. The Downing Street Minutes plus the other big revelation by the British press concerning the escalation of bombing of Iraq to try to force Saddam's hand have begun to shake things up. But it took another event--one not forseen by anybody--to provide the final push toward that point where things can tip over.
That was the revelation, after over three decades of silence, of the identity of Deep Throat. This was a very crucial event. It reminded the country of a time when the excesses of a run-away Executive branch was brought to a halt by a collaboration of a public, a press and a Congress who all took their responsibilities very, very seriously. People remembered.
Nixon was not driven from office by a run-away train. It was over two years between the break-in at the Watergate and Nixon's resignation in the face of certain impeachment and removal from office. Between were months of investigations, hearings, trials, and much deliberation in the halls of Congress. Along the way, excesses of a magnitude nobody imagined were revealed.
This is why I came to a personal tipping point. I now think that impeachment of George W Bush and Dick Cheney is an imperative. The known excesses of this administration certainly warrant the use of the words "high crimes and misdemeanors". Like early in the Watergate affair, what we can document now is likely only the tip of the iceberg. It is therefore our duty as good citizens to again start down the road using the tools provided by the founding fathers. It will not be an easy trek, but it is our duty to draw the line now and say,
We've been here before. When we said, never again, we meant it.

2. I had the same thought & revelation w/ the announcement of Deep Throat! |
|
The similarities to events & their deeper meaning as well as even people like McGovern calling out for "New Deep Throats" is the call for action...
Is anyone listening? :eyes:

3. Deep Throat strikes again. |

His admission has all of the old crovicts from the Nixon administration up in arms. And since these ex-cons have media access, the more they yell, the more their hypocrisy is exposed. Deep Throat caused the invasion of Cambodia? Give me a fucking break. Nixon and Kissinger caused the illegal invasion of Cambodia. And that isn't even why Nixon was threatened with impeachment. It took a "third rate burglary" and its subsequent cover-up.

The only conclusion I can come to as to "WHY NOW" with regard to Felt coming forward is that he hoped it would spur those that have been reticent to come forward.
It is time to begin repeating often and loudly "high crimes and misdemeanors". Shout it from the rooftops and be prepared to back it up with the facts as we know them, because the Bush apologists will defend with every lie they can muster.
