Watergate is the ultimate evidence of repub election theft
Everyone looks at Watergate for the crime that it was.

However, the media while going over it recently failed to mention *why* Watergate happened.

It was the first time the republicans got caught (in a huge way) using criminal means in order to gain an advantage in an election.

They got smart after that and realized that from that point on they had to A. Control the media so if they ever slipped up again it would not be reported and B. Find a less risky way to gain an advantage at the polls.

They have obviously accomplished goal A, and goal B has been obviously accomplished though voting machines with no paper trail, non-legit money, and blind sheep that will swarm on demand to make sure the plan succeeds. (see Florida 2000)

To me the simple fact that Watergate happened and involved republicans in such high offices is conclusive evidence that they have used illegal means to gain election advantages in the past and thus likely continue to do so today. If they would do it then why wouldn't they do it now?

I write this for the people who don't fully believe what the republicans are capable of. They have a history of this kind of thing at the highest levels. It continues to this day. It's how a person could be "elected" president in 2004 yet a month later have under 50% approval.

2006 is fast approaching. The democrats who are in office today *need* to pass election reform in as many states as possible.

In 2000 they did it. In 2002 they did it again. Then 2004. In 2006 with out election reform we will lose more seats. The only reason we haven't lost every seat in congress is due to the fact it would be too obvious. Right now they are slowly getting their numbers up every election year. Eventually we will be in such an extreme minority there will be nothing we can do as far as election reform.

Truly, BEFORE 2000 was the ideal time to pass election reform... back when we still had good numbers. I hope we can still do it.

3. Without the CIA's help, Watergate wouldn't have gotten Nixon out
Edited on Sat Jun-04-05 05:27 PM by EVDebs
Despite the steering of Deep Throat, Watergate wouldn't have set Nixon up for his fall if not for the Feb. 1971 installed taping system in the White House set up with Alexander Butterfield, a CIA intelligence person (p. 59, Crimes of Patriots by Jonathan Kwitny). If not for the Pentagon Papers being published a few months later in 1971 the rationale for the break-ins wouldn't have become flagrant enough for Gordon Strachan, called the "Tickler" in Ch 7 of Jim Hougan's Secret Agenda book, to force the second break-in at the Watergate using the CIA's personnel.

Woodward wouldn't have had Robert F. Bennett feeding him information, Bennett being head of Mullen & Co., the CIA's front company p.r. firm in Domestic Operations. See:

"What's missing is an understanding of Deep Throat, Woodward's garage-lurking source who guided the reporters to some of their biggest leads. If he was just a concerned citizen, great. But if Deep Throat had his own agenda, then he used the Washington Post to shape the story for his own purposes and got away clean.

"I have told Woodward everything I know about the Watergate case, except the Mullen Company's tie to the CIA."--Robert F. Bennett, testifying before House Special Committee on Intelligence, July 2, 1974.

www.metroactive.com/papers/sonoma/07.03.97/scoop-9727.html

Robert Bennett was the head of Mullen and Co., a CIA front headquartered in the very same building as the CIA's Domestic Operations Division." Bennett is now a Senator, R-UT.

My thinking is that the military wanted Nixon out because of his bungling of the SALT talks on Delta subs, see Blind Man's Bluff by Sontag and Drew, and because of possibly losing POWs, (the out of uniform kind) as mentioned in the Stevenson's book Kiss The Boys Goodbye. The FBI and CIA both wanted Nixon out because of the Huston Plan's turf elimination of their domestic spying abilities being taken over by the White House.

DUers care to comment ?

16. I think this picture of Nixon and *'s Grandfather should be splashed all
over the papers.

Image

"According to Nixon's biography, his personal and political ties with the Bush family go back to 1946, when Nixon claims he read an ad placed in an L.A. newspaper by the Orange County Republican Party and a wealthy group of businessmen led by Prescott Bush, the father of George Bush.

"They wanted a young candidate to run for Congress. Nixon applied and won the job, becoming a mouthpiece for the Bush group, progressing to the U.S. Senate and in 1952 the vice presidency.

"In 1960, Vice President Nixon was scouring the world seeking the presidency. At his side was Prescott Bush. Congressman Gerald Ford was helping raise funds, as was George Bush.

"It took Nixon eight more years to reach his goal. And the canny politician always remembered who helped him get there. So again it was payback time for George Bush. Nixon appointed him Chairman of the Republican National Committee, and later ambassador to China.

"By 1976, Ford, who succeeded Nixon after Watergate, paid his due bill. He picked out a big job for his old crony, Bush: the CIA. But this time Bush would not be an underling. Now he would be head man."

and I imagine one or perhaps both of these links have information about one of Nixon's first jobs -- working for Allan Dulles on Operation Mockingbird, helpin Nazis into the U.S. and into the CIA and other important places:

5. Oh boy, look at this
Edited on Sat Jun-04-05 05:13 PM by Eloriel
This couldn't make the Bush/Nixon connections any clearer:

1945:The Treasury Department revealed to congress that United Steel produced the following percentages of war munitions for the Nazis: Pig iron 50.8%; Pipe & tubes 45.5%; Universal plate 41.4%; Galvanised sheet 38.5%; Heavy plate 36%; Explosives 35%; Wire 22.1%. This is the same firm Prescott Bush acted, as banker for. In effect, Prescott was Hitler’s American banker.

Allen Dulles sought out a young Naval Officer that had been put in charge of some captured Nazi documents. If the documents surfaced it would have revealed Dulles as a traitor. In a deal to bury the documents, Dulles agreed to finance the young man’s first political race. This was the beginning of the political career of Richard Nixon.

Project Paperclip begins to import Nazis into the United States.

1946:Nixon defeated Jerry Voohris for congress with the help of an influx of money from New York centered banks.

1947:Following the war, authorities seeking to locate the Dutch Royal family’s jewelry discovered the transaction papers of the Silesian American Corporation in the books of Bank voor Handel en Scheepvaart. The bank manager, H.J. Kounhoven came under intense scrutiny and was shocked by the discovery. Soon Kounhoven traveled to New York to inform Prescott Bush. Two weeks later, the otherwise healthy Dutch banker died of a heart attack.

1950:Prescott Bush defeated in his political race due to his background association with the American eugenics movement.

1951:Union Bank liquidated. The Bush family received $1.5 million from its interest in Union Bank.

1952:Prescott Bush elected to senate.

Prescott Bush instrumental in the selection of Nixon as vice presidential candidate.

1953:John Foster Dulles appointed Secretary of State.

Allen Dulles appointed Director of the CIA.

With money from Brown Brothers and Harriman, George Bush forms Zapata, a front for the CIA.

-- much, MUCH more in this wonderful resource --

Edited to add: This source has BUsh setting up the ethnic heritage groups -- I'm not sure I knew that. (And don't forget Bush had an "ex-Nazi" on his campaign staff and had to let him go -- which only means find another lower-profile place for him.

1972:Watergate scandal erupts during Nixon’s reelection campaign

George Bush appointed chairman of the Republican Party. Bush proceeds to set up the ethnic heritage groups in the party. In short, these groups are nothing more than a haven for Nazi émigrés from Eastern Europe. Members of the Republican Heritage Groups Council included Lazlo Paszor, Hungary Arrow Cross member, Radi Slavoff, Bulgarian fascist, Nicolas Nazarenko former SS officer in the Cossack Division, Florian Gaddu, Romanian Iron Guard member, Method Balco Slovakian fascist. Both Allen Dulles and Nixon believed these émigrés were useful in getting out the vote.

1975:Colby reveals information about secret domestic operations by the CIA: Mokingbird, Mk-Ultra. Cheney seeks Colby's removal.

1976:George Bush appointed CIA director by President Gerald Ford, a former member of the pro-Nazi group, American First.

8. 1975 Colby release of info leads to 1996 canoe ride...
"On a spring day in 1996, Colby went down to the waterfront near his weekend home in Rock Point, Maryland, and launched his canoe into a stiff breeze. Until his body was found several days later with no evident signs of foul play, the press had one more chance to speculate about the fate of a man whose manner of death seemed to conjure up the enigma of his life."

7. The Plot to Overthrow FDR
The movie is at

www.ihffilm.com/r547.html

The book was Jules Archer's The Plot to Seize The White House. It's pretty expensive and out of print (wonder why ?).

Prescott Bush and George Herbert Walker were some of the conspirators that USMC Gen Smedley D. Butler blew the whistle on. Congress held hearings. Wonder if someone might want to get Congress to release the documents and put 'em on the web...

I can dream can't I ?

9. Florida is in dire straits.
The state legislature is so heavily Republican that every Democrat could walk out and they would still maintain a quorum for legislative business to go on as usual. They will never seriously consider legislation that honestly addresses the issue of fair and open elections. Take a look at what they think passes for election reform legislation and it's clear they will be making damned sure they maintain a permanent majority in Florida.
