3. And we thought it was strange he supports Edwards...
This might be over his opposition to free trade and the fact that he says what he believes.

5. He's a straight shooter and you know what you're getting with Pat
While I don't agree with his views, he does dare to venture against the party line. And, I think he is basically an "honorable gentleman," as a pundit/columnist too. I couldn't see him ever doing the kind of thing that Novakula did with the Valerie Plame story.

38. Buchanan is a thinly veiled version of David Duke
Not toeing the party line is not inherently a positive thing.

6. Well, there's that chance that Buchanan is Deep Throat
...which should get him invited to a few Democratic parties.

despite his other problems

13. Buchanan is a racist isolationist
To say that he's your favorite Republican because of one stand on one issue is a little like saying you're not going to vote Democrat if a candidate who voted for the IWR gets nominated. It's silly.

Buchanan has a lot wrong with him, but he also has a few things right.

I don't understand Dennis' choice but whatever.

30. Buchanan is a pacifist
The way that David Duke is a pacifist. They have a lot of other qualities in common as well. I'm a bit surprised. I wouldn't have thought that Kucinich would like a racist, anti-semitic, homophobic, xenophobic, mysoginistic isolationist bigot like Buchanan. At the least, I'd have thought that he'd be smart enough to keep that sort of admiration to himself. I guess not.

2. I read that Alterman likes Buchanan too
That he's a really nice guy outside of politics, and maybe DK respects his conviction and willingness to blast the GOP when they go too far left, i.e. not just a cheerleader for his party.

29. Buchanan is a likable guy
and he's one of the most articulate voices on Isreal-Palestine and other lousy aspects of our foreign policy. My worldview is drastically different from his but I respect him and I'm not going to turn him away when he chooses to represent progressive views.

11. Ditto
I respect those that seem to have a firm conviction and honestly believe that their way is the best way for the country as a whole, as misguided as I think some of their beliefs are. McCain has always struck me as that type.

quite witty

we sit in chairs the exact same way

19. Lincoln Chafee
Anybody read "Had Enough" by Carville?

Novak: "Do you think Americans are taxed too much or too little?"
Lincoln Chafee: "Too little"

Now there's someone who speaks his mind if nothing else. Way to go against the party line, Mr. Chafee.

Even though they are Repbulicans, I could tolerate them as president. The same goes for Dick Lugar in a wierd sort of way.

That took integrity. He's wrong on everything but at least he stood up for the truth in Florida.

33. What about Giuliani?
I don't like the fact that he stumps for Bush, but I heard he'd pass for a Democrat in most parts of America. I like Sen. McCain as well. He comes off as a guy who you may not agree with a 100% of the time, but he believes in honesty and goodness as well.

37. giuliani is a jerkoff
i don't like him. and he wasn't a good mayor especially when it came to minorities . the only thing that "saved" him was 9/11 and that was only because bush got scared and hid so giuliani had the spotlight on him. so rather than the american people looking to the president for guidance and comfort it was giuliani. and even then it was mostly hillary and schumer who helped new york through their work in the senate and getting money when bush was opposed to it and giuliani never held bush on this.

34. hmn, good repubs?
In terms of conservative principled Republicans, McCain and Chuck Hagel are good men despite their conservatism. I'm a fan of former senator Billy Cohen and former Gov. of Illinois Jim Edgar, two down to earth moderates.
