Meet The Press with RNC chairmen
I'm watching the rerun of Meet The Press on MSNBC right now with the
RNC chairmen. I didn't see any post here but just a few minutes ago
Tim Russert brought up the Downing Street Minutes. I think Russert
was fairly frank and held to the facts when the RNC chairmen
Ken Melman tried to spin some of the details.
Example "the Downing Streets Memo had been discredited"
and Russert came back and said wait a minute....
Russert read excerpts from the Downing Street Minutes!

Isn't this great? ;-)
Did I miss the thread where everyone was happy?

4. I was just watching that too...
I'm so disappointed that Russert didn't ask him about his own questionable marriage.

I don't recall at this time... but wasn't Mehlman married in Massachussetts to, um, his 'long time lover'?

Or am I thinking of someone else?

Edited on Mon Jun-06-05 02:32 AM by Pachamama
thought it was someone else that had married their long term partner...Am I wrong? Was it Mehlman that tied the knot in MA? I thought it was some other lying hypocrite in the GOP...

On edit: Let me be clear of one thing - I don't care if someone is gay - I don't like homophobes and just as bad are hypocrites in the GOP who slam gay rights and yet are gay...

7. Mehlman Just Denies it
And doesn't even defend his position. He just makes two unsupported points:

1. that ALL the World's Intelligence said Iraq had WMDs. This is absolutely FALSE... Did the U.N. say he had WMD? No. Did the Weapons Inspectors Say he had WMD? No. Were we warned to let the inspectors finish their job? Yes.

2. That everyone who has looked at the DSM has said that the conclusions are discredited. WHAT? He hasn't talked with Conyers or people who have actually worked in the Pentagon and saw first hand the Intel being Fixed: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x3793125

15. I thought it was fascinating to hear his "spin" re. the Downing Street Min
..expect to hear this "spin" verbatim by all these lying sacks of shit from the Bush Co foljs this week...Its obvious that this is going to be their efforts to do damage control...how "ironic" that he states and uses the word "discredit" in reference to the Downing Street Minutes because that was his goal in making that statement. The fact that he just sat there straight faced saying that the head of British intel was all wrong in its reports to Blair is unreal (especially since now, 3 years later, we know that everything those minutes talked about have proven to be true). Mehlman even had the nerve to say and defend the issue of no planning for after the war...And then he talked about Iraq having been a bigger threat than Iran & N Korea...WTF? Is this guy on drugs? No, he's just a LIAR!

9. This was aired this a.m. during some tennis
(I think?) games, so wasn't aired here. Plus Mehlman and Russert = fagettaboutit for the most part. I am happy to hear it wasn't all one-sided.

14. I was really shocked
After seeing last weeks interview with Howard Dean I wanted
to catch this weeks interview with the RNC chair.
Russert brought up the president approval ratings, Iraq
approval ratings, along with some polls. He'd stick
the poll numbers right on the screen. Even brought up the
"lame duck" question.

10. Republicans leadership sticking to their
stance's (Example: against stem cell research) seems like it will eventually
hurt them when they don't have a a majority behind their view.

11. Yes, I saw it too, Russert did a good job - Dems mantra should be PROVE IT
I posed something earlier calling on a new brand for our various reform movements. Melhman's whole rap was about democracy and elections to justify all of it - including what he perceives as support for their crappy policies I say PROVE IT! i think that the time is way past for any dem to go on with one of these clowns and allow them to lie. Also, they should use ever mention of elections and democracy to question why efforts at auditing our votes continues to be stonewalled. I also say, Follow Rush Holt's Verifiable Voting Legislation to see how much the cons respect democracy.

16. seriously,
you have no idea how many times debating freepers/trolls just saying prove it, asking them to provide examples, proof, evidence to back up their usually baseless claims.

I don't think as many people saw it as normally would watch.

13. Russert was good this week
He barely let Mehlman have any break between questions, and gave plenty of follow-ups. Kenny was just one continuous hour of spin. And is such a bad liar!! We should feel lucky that he's a spokesman for the GOP. And best of all, this has now been talked about on one of the BIG THREE networks, who get far more viewers that those three piddly cable news networks. It's all good. :)

We also had tennis this morning, but I saw the repeat on cable tonight.

19. Russert has his occasional moments. I hope someone recorded this
as I would like to watch it. Of course it is a LIE LIE LIE to say that the DSM has been "discredited." This sounds like a keeper.

Here's an earlier Russert video in which he shows up Sen. George Allen as a LIAR about the history of fillibusters. It's good!:

21. Give Russert his due
He gave Dean a great deal of grief in his interview and we were all furious but it seems he also made Mehlman sweat and brought the Downing Street Memo into mainstream.

Many people say he only throws softballs to Republicans.
I disagree. But Russert does seem to lean right.

24. I watched the re-run too
And kept thinking throughout the entire show how ironic it was that Howard Dean whose facts were honest and totally straightforward was under so much heat yesterday for a few misused words, even after this bobblehead blatantly lied about absolutely everything the entire time. I agree that Russert was better than he's been in the past with the right wing, but I kept wishing that he would ask for facts or an example supporting any one of Mehlman's continuous lies.
