A "gotcha" article on Kerry? Front page of msnbc.com

Kerry got slow start at Yale, transcript shows
Ex-candidate says freshman D’s stood for ‘distinguished’
The Associated Press
Updated: 7:12 a.m. ET June 7, 2005BOSTON - Sen. John F. Kerry’s grade average at Yale University was virtually identical to President Bush’s record there, despite repeated portrayals of Kerry as the more intellectual candidate during the 2004 presidential campaign.

Kerry had a cumulative average of 76 and got four Ds his freshman year — in geology, two history courses and political science, The Boston Globe reported Tuesday.

His grades improved with time, and he averaged an 81 his senior year and earned an 89 — his highest grade — in political science as a senior.

“I always told my dad that D stood for distinction,” Kerry said in a written response to reporters’ questions. He said he has previously acknowledged focusing more on learning to fly than studying.

Under Yale’s grading system in effect at the time, grades between 90 and 100 equaled an A, 80-89 a B, 70-79 a C, 60 to 69 a D, and anything below that was a failing grade.

In 1999, The New Yorker magazine published a transcript showing Bush had a cumulative grade average of 77 his first three years at Yale, and a similar average under a non-numerical rating system his senior year.

Bush’s highest grade at Yale was an 88 in anthropology, history and philosophy. He received one D in his four years, a 69 in astronomy, and improved his grades after his freshman year, the transcript showed.

Kerry, a Democrat, previously declined to release the transcript, which was included in his Navy records. He gave the Navy permission to release the documents last month, the Globe reported.

Kerry graduated from Yale in 1966, Bush in 1968.

3. Be that as it may, Kerry is smart, Bush is stupid
I know the article was trying to draw parallels between Bush and Kerry--as if to say, hey, Kerry did the same or worse than Bush. However, Kerry is clearly much more intelligent and eloquent than Bush. A smart/highly intelligent person can (and often does) make bad grades.

6. When they cannot deal with the real issues at hand they...
...smear smear smear and fling shit. That's what Repukes do. Toss dirt and shit when they otherwise cannot address the issues at hand or defend their indefensible actions.

Same MO. Different day. Of course the Corproratzi help them - on orders from Karl Rove, no doubt.

22. Of course it is
All you have to do is look at their campaign's and what they do there. Even in the primaries all Bush did was smear people and shit. He's nothing but a spoiled brat. At least Kerry worked during college and knows what it's like to be poor. (he, Kerry, worked in a bottle factory)

8. How dare they replace the Jackson trial coverage with this stuff?
Seriously, how can you even begin to imagine the MSM gives a ratsass about "newsworthiness"? And MSNBC is racing FAUX to the bottom of the tv journalism midden.

Over a lifetime, Bozo has failed at everything he has attempted, as he is failing as President.

Kerry is another story, but not one the MSM really wishes to talk about too much. Might annoy their corporate masters.

Expect more of this now that the rumor is floating that Kerry is going to followup on that British memo on the floor of the Senate. There'll be a lot of dirt thrown up into the air when/if that happens.

...at least when Kerry got out he could form a complete sentence. bu$hit couldn't - and the a$$hole still can't spell NUCLEAR. That's what Yale got him - and several failed businesses to boot. Now, he's destroying the US the same way. His daddy's friends got him a cushy place in ANG and his daddy's friends got him into the white house.

Kerry: Purple Hearts
bu$h: DUI and cocaine

12. I wonder how much of brush's college work was actually completed by him?
It's clear he doesn't mind lying and cheating. I'm pretty sure he could afford to pay others to take tests, write papers and provide cheat sheets. His current inarticulate, idiotic behavior indicates he learned nothing at college except perhaps how to improve his lying and cheating skills.

23. Probably hardly anything
I remember reading about Bush's college days and apparently Bush would show up late in class and just goof off. He would think things were a joke with a lesson or something. A couple weeks ago Laura Flanders interviewed an old professor of Bush's. I didn't get to listen but they probably have it at the site http://www.airamerciaplace.com in their archives. I bet that was a good show. Did anybody listen to that?

13. SO , KERRY GOT OFF TO A SLOW START!
He was involved in quite a few other activities and his worst grades came in his freshman year. HE IMPROVED OVER TIME.Bush was a cheerleader and his grades were mediocre from beginning to end. Of course, Kerry allowed these records to be released, but I have already heard on the news that Yale released these grades. Kerry actually did better his last three years than Bush did. Kerry fought to bring up his grades after the bad start and gained respect enough to address his graduating class giving the valedictorian speech, Bush just maintained his grades because I suppose it was "hard work" to actually improve them.

19. Actually,
I mis-interpreted some bio information I read. Actually, he was asked and delivered the senior oration at his graduation. He spoke about the Viet Nam War. Still, this is a nice honor. One Bush wasn't asked to do.

That's what counts. You're supposed to improve over time. Nice that Kerry was asked to speak. :) That shows something for sure.

15. Now let's look at this properly . . . KERRY IMPROVED OVER TIME
Bush stagnated.

I would much rather support someone who learns from past mistakes and improves regularly than someone who continues making the same mistakes over and over and over like Bush.

I heard Reps make the same claims about him during the 2000 campaign. True or not, Gore is obviously much more intelligent than Bush.

Regarding Kerry: He got into law school didn't he?

Bush is still a bumbling idiot. He didn't do shit. At least Kerry was involved in a lot of various politicial clubs and sports and didn't waste time just doing nothing but partying and using daddy's name. Kerry also went to war unlike SOMEONE.

25. Notice Kerry had a 81 average in his Senior year.
Although it says Bush improved, it also says Bush still had about the same equivalent average his Senior year as his first 3. Which means roughly a 77.

Also, Kerry's poor grades his first year was because he was learning to fly, as opposed to Bush's first 3 years of porr grades due to cheerleading and partying.
