Edwards stands up for voting reform |
|
Edited on Tue Jun-07-05 12:26 PM by ih8thegop
http://blog.oneamericacommittee.com"...we've got more work to do on democracy right here," said Edwards, a former senator from North Carolina.
"How about if we actually build the best election system money can buy so that people don't have any doubt they will be able to vote, they will be able to vote quickly and they will have absolutely no doubt their vote was counted properly?" Edwards said.
He scoffed at critics who say they don't know what the Democratic Party stands for.
"Don't tell me the Democrats don't stand for anything," Edwards said. "We do actually believe everybody should have a chance to do well. We believe we have a moral responsibility to help those around us who are struggling."

Mr. Edwards.
If you want the fire to keep burning then stop igniting the pyre around Howard Dean, a man who works hard to keep that grass roots fire burning bright and receives little thanks for his efforts from you. You will not steal his bright flame by first attacking him and then coming out to appeal to the "grass root" ordinary people in your party with that rhetoric.

It would have been nice if he would have stood up and spoke during the Ohio recount. Maybe if he would have done that he wouldn't have the problem of people saying that they don't know what the Democrats stand for. If they would actually confront the Republicans while they are commiting their crimes against democracy rather than waiting six monthes after the fact to do so maybe people would pay attention.

4. Well...there was something about his Wife's breast cancer... |
|
that might have distracted him during that time right after the election. Elizabeth is on the mend now and they turn their attentions back to the party.
Also...I believe that Kerry was calling the shots there and Edwards would not go against him regarding Ohio.

7. Good point, but he still has been too easy on the thugs |
|
I had forgotten about Elizabeth's cancer, and it does make sense that he would step away from politics for a while to be with her. Still though, how often did you hear him talk about the Diebold machines before the election? I mean there were many problems exposed long before the first vote was cast, yet there were no alarm bells raised by Edwards or Kerry.

Hopefully the Dems are realizing that they cannot afford to lose a third election due to questionable election tactics by the right-wing.

Within the next 6 months then don't worry about any election ever! I wouldn't even open my my next mail ballot if something across the nation isn't created for a fair, honest election, with heavy penalties for any voting foolishness! I would like to see anyone who had anything to do with voting machines, serving time right now! Just another brilliant way to take people out of democracy!

6. Not to be picky, but I'd call it the fourth |
|
The '02 mid-term elections were so dirty they had to get rid of the venerable old VNS just to cover their tracks. Chambliss' "victory" was out and out fraud, and the Diebold machines sent Cleland packing.
'00, '02 and '04 were thievery pure and simple, and because it wasn't close enough in '04 to really make it stick (or so some thought) the real story about the hackable "private" machines never came out. Meanwhile, Kevin Shelley got run out of town in California, and Schickelgruber wants to redistrict the state with a ballot initiative.
Apparently Edwards fought with Kerry about disputing Ohio, but he didn't get his way. Some day we'll hear more about that, but it was certainly a bad decision however it was made.
