Pretext for wars
I thought that with the War Powers Act of 1973 that from then on no war would be started because of phony pretexts, like with the Gulf of Tonkin fabrications. I guess I was wrong.

How could this have happened ? How does our Congress get lied to and then CONTINUALLY get suckered into these wars ? Don't they understand that it's one of the dumbest things you can do ? Yet they continue to do it ... WHY ? I want to know.

1. War is good for many, all non-combatants of course
They aren't suckered into anything, IMO. They are almost corporatist to a person. Look at corporate profits right now, they all feed on defense.

2. EV I think I have part of the answer.
Most people in Congress and the White House (in other words, nitwit) have been bought and sold by corporations who want to spread their greedy tentacles to all corners of the earth. Considering that politicians at the congressional level are psychopaths and by definition have no conscience, it's no surprise that they pretend to get 'sucked in' by the lies of their friends in the other branches of government all the while ensuring that we go war. It's all part of the 'let's pretend' game.

The War Powers Act is a joke. It gives presidents the power to station troops for a time without congressional approval after which the president needs to obtain approval for a longer stay. Does anyone think that those in Congress are going to say no once US troops are in harm's way. No way! The War Powers Act has a built-in sure fire way of sending us to war while making it seem that Congress is on guard against any violation of the Constitution by the president!

3. K ! Good to hear from you. Yes, the good 'ole WarPowersAct
is definitely a laugher. It's embedded within the Resolution to go to war in Iraq posted on the WhiteHouse's website.

It looks like, just as with Vietnam, that the costs of the war within five years of start (so by 2008's election), will determine the war's ending point. Can Bush & co. seriously think they can continue funding this war for even three more years ? I want to smoke what those Republicans are toking on !

Also, Kmarx, check out my posts on the Watergate and Woodward's Deep Throat. It seems he was in service under Adm Moorer, yet no mention in any of his stories until recently did he make that clear. Adm Moorer had a spy ring, in what is now known as the Moorer-Radford Affair, that may have had the objective of ousting Nixon.

The CIA and military role in Watergate is still unclear. Woodstein, on Larry King, say even THEY don't know ultimately what was behind Watergate. Let's just say the CIA and military want it that way.

We need them to do it again !

4. Are you sure that they are smoking something.

Rumor has it that nitwit sniffed, not smoked, in the good old days. He's probably doing something heavy these days as most of the rest of us are on planet earth while he is somewhere on Mars. When it comes to the important issues of the day dimwit can only talk of how successful his failures are. He must be sharing some of what he's taking with his beady-eyed son of a bitch of a VP. Did you hear Cheney recently say that the insurgency was losing steam and is getting desperate? This is probably what Hitler said to his general staff in the bunker in April of '45' when the Russians were shelling the bunker!

(I'll check out your posts when I can find them. Unfortunately this site is not as easy to use as the Kerry site where, as you remember, one could list the postings of a specific poster. Hang in there, maybe there are still noble elements in the government that see what's going on in the White House under Mr. Asshole and are ready to act to save what's left of the Republic!)
