Now Richardson jumps in on Dean
:wtf:

First Edwards (who may or may not have explained what he meant), then Biden - now Richardson?

Seriously, why are these Dems scared of Dean doing to the Republicans what the Republicans have been doing to the Dems? Is it the Reich-wing media?

BEDFORD, N.H. - Howard Dean is not the Democratic Party's spokesman, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, the latest party leader to distance himself from the outspoken chairman, said Tuesday.

"I believe Governor Dean is a good chairman. He's doing a good job," Richardson, the head of the Democratic Governors' Association, told reporters at the start of a two-day visit to New Hampshire. "He's not the spokesman for the party. It's governors, it's senators, it's party leaders."

Last weekend, Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., and 2004 vice presidential candidate John Edwards criticized Dean for his recent remarks.

Dean told a group of progressives that Republicans "never made an honest living in their lives," a comment he was forced to explain a day later. The one-time presidential candidate also said House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas, who has not been accused of any crime, ought to go back to Houston where he can serve his jail sentence.

3. Maybe Dean is not the SOLE spokesperson for the party ..
but he sure is a MAJOR one, in my humble opinion.

And Richardson can kiss my ... bleep.

What a turncoat.

7. I don't think so either
I've been finding that the headlines are worse than the articles they represent. Richardson doesn't want people to think the party has a single voice, especially when it says something with which voters might disagree. Big deal. This is a strategy that's partly political because it makes Richardson's message an alternative to someone else's, and it's partly practical because it shows us as a "big tent" party.

I mean really. Who the fuck would say that Mehlman is "the spokesman" for the republicons? I doubt very many.

9. True - but he's the third Dem in days to mimick a similar "talking point."
I'm really trying to find out what that's all about.

Edited on Tue Jun-07-05 06:56 PM by Sparkly
Maybe they're saying "He's not a spokesman" in an effort to allow him to speak freely, and not be politically-careful? I don't know...

What gets me is all the hoopla and "shock" in the MSM about how "angry" Democrats seem (I recently heard somebody say we shouldn't let Dean "run wild all over the country," as if he's just crazed!).

How quickly they forget the DNC convention whose message was unity, vs. the RNC convention whose message was screaming, fuming rage, hatred, division, insults, etc...

8. Heaven knows I wasn't the biggest Dean supporter during the
primaries (I liked him, fine, I just didn't think he could win nationally), but he did tap into the anger that Dems are feeling as a result of being misled about the war, being lied to daily by the Bush Administration, the voting machine issues, 2000 and having virtually no outlet in the corporate-controlled media.

I don't think he's "wild," at all. Just frank.

13. I think its a concerted effort by the "wimp middle" that's why Barney
Frank's initial entry into the "anti-Dean" fray surprised me. Recall about a week ago Frank defended the wonderful Tom DeLay? Something vile is afoot by the old line insiders of the Democratic party and we are not going to let them by with it.
Howard, we are with you!

16. Add Jack Valenti to that list.
Edited on Tue Jun-07-05 07:41 PM by Andromeda
Eighty-two year old Jack Valenti, who was a special advisor to Lyndon Johnson and later became president of the Motion Picture Association of America, dissed Howard Dean on CNN today on Inside Politics.

He was interviewed by John King, new host of Inside Politics. Dean was also bashed by GOP spokesman, Ed Rollins (no surprise there).

I'm very pissed off because there was NO balance, but that doesn't surprise me either. Just ONCE I wish they would stop piling on when one of our prominent Democrats, namely Harry Reid and Howard Dean, calls President Junior, DeLay and the whole Republiican mob on their lies and duplicity.

John King also misquoted Howard Dean when Dean said "a lot of Republicans don't work for a living," not the exact words but close enough to make my point --- and turned the phrase around to say "Republicans don't work," which changes the meaning considerably. Anyway, there was no mention of Dean's apology and clarification of the remark.

:nuke:  :nuke:  :nuke:

What is the matter with these people? This isn't unity! This burns me so much I can hardly find the words to express it!

another instance of the media pretending there is a big rift. Fuck the media.

on edit, after reading the other replie on this thread, I am amazed at the gullibility of some of our members in allowing a deceitful headline to sow dischord. You should read the links instead of knee-jerking. :eyes:

19. "Funny how that happens."
Here's more of what Richardson actually said from another article.

http://wireservice.wired.com/wired/story.asp?section=Breaking&storyId=1045519&tw=wn_wire_story

"I believe Governor Dean is a good chairman. He's doing a good job," Richardson, the head of the Democratic Governors' Association, told reporters at the start of a two-day visit to New Hampshire. "He's not the spokesman for the party. It's governors, it's senators, it's party leaders." . . .

Richardson said Dean is doing a good job as party chairman, but added: "Nobody's error-free. I wouldn't have made the comments he did."

21. It's the same talking-point, though.
That's what's got me in a huff.

It's not as strong as the media's making it - agreed.

It's just the same words - like what Republicans do. If the Dems are going to sing in concert, shouldn't it be about what crimes the Republicans are doing and not what Dean is saying?

22. they bushwhack 'em though ...
Pull it out of context, challenge them with it ...often without actually presenting the words so much as characterizations, and the pols react. True, what they should do is say, "what the fuck are you trying to pull with this shit?" but we know that won't happen.

But it should.

20. Or as Edwards said, it's being made to appear so
It seems as if whenever another Dem mentions Dean's name, the press bypasses whatever good is said and goes with the bad, however small.

Divisive tactic. I will not succumb.
