I knew Dean wouldn't be able to keep his mouth shut. Is he trying to kill the party? This is the worst PR job that I've seen since Trent Lott.

5. Uh...welcome to DU
Your comments show a profound lack of insight. Dean isn't running for anything. Please pay attention to what he is doing, and don't fall for the right-wing spin. Dems don't watch Hannity for news; republicans watch it to be told what to think. DON'T FALL FOR IT! Support your party, dammit!

Uh...you DO know this is DEMOCRATIC underground, right?

14. Our schools in Alabama suck so I can't spell well.
I support my party, but I dislike Dean. He's too radical. He serves as the posterboy for what republicans want everyone to think democrats are. Most of us are far more moderate than Dean. There's a time and a place for harsh rhetoric, but a non-election year isn't it, and insulting people's religion sure as hell SHOULD never be fair game. I am an athiest, but you're not going to gain votes by attacking christians. He basically just rejected white christians from our party and shoved them into the Repubs. That's not the way to win. Dean's pissing off everyone, he needs to learn to focus it more. He's viewed as the spokesman for us and it hurts the image. I do agree that most republicans are similar, but don't go to the extremes if you want to win.

"Dean's pissing off everyone,"

This is TOTALLY right-wing spin.

Did you know Kennedy spoke of the DSM on the Senate floor today? But what does the Republican Media have us talking about? Howard Dean.

Get it? Dean is saying things a LOT of people want finally to be said. I hope you don't believe for a moment that those who are currently fed up with Bush and his lies and death and destruction and gutting of America, thay they're going to stick with BushCo and GOP just because of a few comments by the head of the Democratic Party.

Did you see Ken Melman, head of the RNC, on Meet The Press? He said the most outrageous, ridiculous lies I've heard in ages, and it outraged many, many people...but did you hear the Republican Media devote an entire day to his comments, as is being done to Dean?

Please, yellowdog, don't get sucked in by the bullshit from the Republican Media. You are being manipulated, and it appears to be working.

25. Trust me
I'm not going to get sucked in. I am familiar with the Kennedy speech, but unfortunately didn't get the chance to see Meet the Press due to classes. I'm just trying to get a more mainstream democratic ideal going. I want to win. I want our agenda to get passed. Dean's working against it when he's insulting people as a group. It's dangerous to make such sweeping generalizations and the spin independants will get are going to be tough. We have to be careful and not give the right wing nut jobs any ammo.

And quite honestly, while I'd like to "trust you," I'm getting a bit curious about the number of Dean-bashing threads you've started. But, I'm not supposed to mention that about new posters. So I wont.

You're implying that the poster you responded to is a freeper. That's funny, since the freepers are applauding Dean's foot-in-mouth stupidity:

To: marblehead17

We need to convince the dems he is exactly what is needed to defeat the right.

It would be a mistake. I am not implying he is a freeper. The freeper posts you used to illustrate your point are of a completely different tone than the tone being set by the Republican News Media. But with a very low post count, and multiple threads on the same anti-Dean subject, I have a right to be suspect.

Glad to know. Now, take him to the local coffee house and help him wrap his head around the enormity of this battle, and why we need to give the DNC chair some room. Dean's words aren't the problem...the problem is US falling for the Republican Media's mass hysteria every time a democrat opens his mouth.

31. "Insulting people as a group"
Republicans have "won" all branches of government by "insulting people as a group," all the while warning Democrats to be polite, not "go negative," and acting like shocked white-gloved ladies at a tea party everytime we don't.

They've insulted women, minorities, gays, lesbians, union members, liberals, non-Christians, people against the war, intellectuals, northeasterners, teachers, and anyone who opposes them. They had a convention that was a four-day HATEfest, and it sent Chimp's ratings soaring.

Go figure. I think this is just another distraction, and another attempt to play it two ways.

I saw he released a statement at his website and dkos. That doesn't mean he spoke on the floor about it. Also I listened to the audio from dembloggers.com and didn't hear it. I was working on stuff though and maybe half listening, so I might have missed it. Can you confirm?

34. He didn't attack Christians
He attacked the lack of diversity in the Republican party. His point was that a party has to be open to everyone, yet the Republicans are only representing that one segment of society and ignoring everyone else. The media is spinning this way out of proportion. What he stated was a fact. It can be proven by looking at the demographics that virtually all Republicans with few exceptions are in fact white Christians.

Go ahead and watch Hannity but I'll tell you, WWE has a better story line and is more in touch with the common people.

I like Dean but I see him as an occasional mixed bag. I actually like it when he mouths off but I'd like to see some real planning behind it. He's bright enough to play chess rather than checkers with these crooks.

I'm partial to the Yellow Dog faction of the Democratic Parth (FDR, New Deal, gratitude for saving the country) so I suppose I'm one too (never voted for a Republican in many elections, not once).

And while your at it, since you're such a good advocate, check this out...

The repukes have hurt us all they can and no matter what Dean says they will keep on hurting us. Just turn on wing nut talk shows and listen what they say. It won't stop if Dean suddenly changed his tune.

Somebody has to tell it like it is and we get a lot of coverage on the talk shows. I like it.

And one more thing. I get a bit tired of the threads where we are supposed to not do something because the repukes will do something about it. Screw that!

42. Here is what Dean ACTUALLY SAID
Republicans are "a pretty monolithic party. They all behave the same. They all look the same. It's pretty much a white Christian party."

"The Republicans are not very friendly to different kinds of people," Dean said Monday, responding to a question about diversity during a forum with minority leaders and journalists. "We're more welcoming to different folks, because that's the type of people we are."

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/chronicle/archive/2005/06/07/MNdean07.TMP

He is not insulting anybody. He is pointing out what he sees as a difference between the GOP and the Dems. Would any of you deny that Dems are more accepting of different races and religious points of view than the GOP? Doesn't the GOP actively advance the agendas of White Evangelical Christians over the concerns of other groups?

Don't let them get away with this spin.

52. Dean is doing a GREAT job.
Democrats must turn up the attack volume now, or watch all this opportunity turn into more right-wing victories. Things are starting to break our way - Bush & Blair lying through their teeth at a joint press conference, Downing Street on major evening newscasts, the accumulating Delay scandal-factory output, Bush polls in the toilet, more and more real bad news out of Iraq... etc.

With Richardson and Biden dissing Dean, we get less than nothing. These guys will sell us out for a chance at the presidency - that's just what they're doing (especially Biden, the pro-credit-card company man.)

They either don't understand, or worse, don't care that their "even-tempered" and "civilized" responses are like feeding the bears at the park. You can't placate the right-wing fundies - even Repub's are learning that.

You don't play footsie with a rapist.

56. Anyone on the corporate dole should be run out of politics...
Dean is illustrating the power of individual Americans with record breaking fund raising. This is key.

Corps are the enemy, Biden's a mouth piece or he would not have voted for the Bankruptcy bill... The man no longer has real credibility.

Something in what Dean is doing resonates with the people. We have more power united. The corps don't want that, they just want us to continue buying, to remain complacent.

God forbid that we start getting politicians elected that they can't buy. Politicians that represent the best interest of everyday Americans.

That said, I don't know why anyone (other than a fox robot) would punish themselves by watching that blow-hard Hannity. You can get the same crap in a million places online. Why listen to that nauseating voice and look at his smug, pudgy, Pillsbury Dough boy face. :freak:

58. "What he stated was a fact."
Edited on Wed Jun-08-05 06:48 AM by Disturbed
Rethugs take facts and twist them; leave out words and spout back a perverted spin to suit their agenda. They have no ethics or morals. Rethugs believe that they are at war with anyone that does not think exactly like they do and in their view this war has no rules. Sadly, many Dems buy into the Rethug BS.

66. My point is that some or maybe a lot of our "guys" are part of the problem
look at the 11-4 vote yesterday in the Senate Intelligence Committee to approve expanded FBI powers to subpoena records without the approval of a judge or grand jury in terrorism investigations under Patriot Act.

65. Why do Democrats
lower themselves by going on shows like O'Reilly or Hannity?

Dean must be doing something right to get all this attention from the rightwing ~ they don't bother dissing Joe Biden, or Liebermann, eg.

We've had five years of Dems sucking up to Republicans, doing what Brandon would like Dean to do!! Exactly where did that get us?

If Hannity is in a tizzy, then Dean did something right!! Go Dean!!
