... it was Rove that got him into state government (Rove pulled a number of really dirty tricks when Perry ran against Jim Hightower for Agriculture commissioner).

That said, he's got a lot of baggage, and a smart Demo campaign would pretty much undo him. As well, by 2008, I've got a feeling that the country is gonna be pretty well fed up with Texas and their governor to ever consider another one for a good long while.
