If I were Lee Atwater.....
I would be dead....but that is hardly relevant.

I keep thinking of Dean and realized the ad that I would run all over the south and mid-west if I were a Republican.

Intro...vaguley "churchish" music plays...
Cut to farmhouses...men in the fields...a woman pouring coffee...a man in a truck...a woman teaching a class....
Cut to clean, happy faces leaving a church on Sunday.....
Cut to firemen and policemen tussling the hair of a wide-eyed mop-topped youngster. Screen just bursting with white All-American faces. Maybe we can fit a high school football game in there somwhere too.

Hard cut to Dean with ominous music behind him. "White Cristian party...who never worked a pay in their life."

Cut to someone who looks vaguely like John Davidson. "I've never considered myself a political person, but when I heard Howard Dean attacking the values and work ethic of my neighbors, I knew I had to take a stand. That's why I decided to help the Republican Party fight for the values that I share. Isn't it time we all sent a message to Howard Dean and the Democrats?"

Fade out on a Fourth of July picnic in the heartland or something.

Now...explain to me again how Dean is going to win us back West Virginia?

1. He wasn't referring to the Republican rank-and-file.
Who have been hoodwinked into voting for a rich white man's party (who give at best some lipservice to Christianity).

Yeah, Repukes will latch onto something and distort it. THAT'S WHAT THEY FUCKING DO. We can get mealy-mouthed and just take it, or we can speak out and make them have to play some defense once in a while.

Thank you, Chairman Dean.

2. If I were Lee Atwater . . .
I'd be furiously clawing at the lid of my coffin trying to get out, and screaming for the mercy of Jesus.

6. From what I've heard, his death was pretty terrible
I don't remember which book I read about it in-I'm thinking "American Rhapsody" by Esterhaus, but he decribed Atwater's death from a brain tumor. I guess he lost his mind and mental capacity, and suffered a great deal of physical pain. At the end,he didn't even recognize his wife and family. As much as he is responsible for beginning negative campaigns, I don't wish that on anyone.

10. Fate has a twisted sense of humour
She gives out to mortals what She deems they deserve for their actions. She doesn't like when people screw with Her tapestry and She has no problem screwing back.

13. Proof that hatred will consume one's mind, literally in his case.
Either that, or he knew too much and was on the recieving end of a CIA needle.

11. some of the kindest people to him and his family during his illness
were Democrats - it's what made Mr. Atwater regret his evil ways in the end.

3. Perhaps the ad agency
that runs this ad with credit you with the concept. Howard Dean did not say anything bad about White Christians, he was just stating a fact. Most Republicans are White Christians. These White Christians would agree with the FACT of it.

Dean is going to win back W.V. the good old fashioned way. On the ground talking about the problems with the current administration and the wild-eyed fanatics now calling the shots for the Republicans. He is going to do it from the Grass Roots up. Anyone who is offended by the "White Christian" remark would never come to our side anyway, they are too entrenched. As for the "Never worked a day.." I would need to see the whole remark in FULL context. Does anyone have it?

The problem with the Democrats who would deny Dean and play so nice with the people who cannot play nice themselves is that they are sell outs. They want to watch and throw out a sound bite now and then. We need more speaking truth to power. We need more of this from Dr. Dean and we need more of this from other Dem. Party leaders.

4. I'm sure the ad is already out there
As a native West Virginian, I'm just warning everyone that Dean has the right idea about competing in the so-called "red" states, but his mouth is going to get him in trouble.

7. The way to win working class red staters is to send a Vermont Ivy Leaguer?
It's like those movies where they cast someone from New York as a southerner. Natalie Portman can get away with it but Dean isn't. I work in one of the reddest counties in America and Dean seems kooky to most middle of the road people. There really are a lot of people looking for an alternative to the Republicans and Dean just makes many of these people roll their eyes.

8. None of this Means Anything
unless we get control over the voting machine problems. Eliminate BBV and the concentration of Puke ownership of these companies and we can discuss "strategery."

9. first of all, Dean's quote was taken completely out of context.
Second, Atwater basically apologized on his deathbed for being such a scheming, conniving, lying piece of shit.

And you know, it's time the good folks in West Virginia took a damned good look at the "values" they all supposedly share. In my opinion, it's time to hit even harder. You want to claim to be christian and anointed of god, then you damned well better act like it, not some money-grubbing hypocrite. These christian fundamentalists are no better--or worse--than muslim fundamentalists. They only thing they share is my desire for them both to take a hike. Go fucking fundamentalize yourselves and leave the rest of us, the majority of us alone and in peace. And no, I won't believe that Mohamed ascended to heaven in a chariot of fire and no I won't believe Noah had dinosaurs on the ark.

14. Dean should read End Time Delusions by Steven Wohlberg
Edited on Wed Jun-08-05 04:11 PM by EVDebs
All those waiting for a pre-tribulation secret rapture will be disappointed finding out they are going to have to go through it all with everyone else. And that Third Temple, it isn't necessary after all !

That's how you win in the Red States. The shock effects will be too much for them.

15. Let them run all the ads they want.
Howard Dean is not a candidate.

The Repugs running ads against Howard Dean will be about as effective as the Democrats running ads against Haley Barbour.

Shall we drop this topic now and get back to the issues that WILL decide elections?

Go Howard!

16. You hit the nail on the head
The Republicans and Freepers are jumping for joy over Dean's stupid comments. Instead of just saying, "The Democrats are the party of diversity and inclusion; Republicans, the party that needs token minorities", the idiot uses the term "white Christians", as if there's something wrong with being white and Christian. Doesn't matter what he MEANT to say; it's what he said and the exact words he used.

It also appears that only ones who like Dean being DNC chair more than the Deaniacs are the Freepers; talk over there is for Freepers to call in their support of Dean. That should tell you everything.

17. Dean shoots from the hip, and often ends up shooting himself in the foot.
I like Howard Dean, but god damn, he just says some of the most stupid shit some times. I'll wait till the first election before I cast my judgement on him though.
