HEALTH – NORTHUP AMENDMENT MOVES FORWARD: Rep. Anne Northup (R-KY) "won voice-vote approval" for an amendment that would "prohibit the Bush administration from negotiating trade agreements that thwart imports of lower-cost medicines, a provision included in recent accords at the behest of pharmaceutical companies." Being hailed as "a symbolic victory over drug companies ... as well as the House leadership and the Bush administration," Northup's amendment "blocks U.S. trade negotiators from adding the drug-industry friendly language to future trade deals." House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-TX), who himself has received hundreds of thousands of dollars in political contributions from the pharmaceutical industry, stated that "'somehow' Northup's provision would be dropped."

REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS – BIRTH CONTROL ACCESS NOT AS DIVISIVE AS CLAIMED: Two recent polls – one conducted by the National Family Planning and Reproductive Health Association and the other by NARAL – find that an overwhelming majority of Americans support women's access to contraception. The NARAL poll asked the more specific question of whether pharmacists should fill such prescriptions regardless of their personal moral beliefs, and again respondents, including 74 percent of those who identify as pro-life, still respected and supported a woman's right to contraception.

1. Silly me; I thought it was "We the PEOPLE...", not "We the corporations"

Profit is god. Nothing should ever limit profits. Mere people and their annoying frailties are garbage.

The profit mechanism should determine ALL human activity. There should NEVER be any regulation. Those who can't cut it don't deserve to live, and should be happy we don't just hack 'em up for pet food and be done with it.
