They think that the U.N. robs the U.S. of its sovereignty. They have this impression that they will pass "laws" that force the U.S. to do things that they don't want.
Much of it comes from an inability to understand exactly what the U.N. does. NOTHING they pass is binding, and the only thing that would be binding would be a treaty that we sign on to. They pass mostly resolutions condemning this or that, etc., that, basically, countries follow as a show of good faith and cooperation. They are not bound to unless a treaty is signed, and the U.N. doesn't really do treaties at all.
I'll be the first to admit that I think the U.N. could use some reform (not the oil-for-food bullshit, procedural matters), but the arguments that the right-wing jingos put forward are just ignorant nonsense.

3. And i think this is what has been puzzling me.... |
|
i can't for the life of me figure out where they get the idea that the UN rules the world, or even has any power that doesn't coem from consensus.

2. the simple answer is the neocons hate the UN because they |
|
are seeking world domination, or as they call it "global leadership'.
Hegemony stands in direct contrast to cooperation and representation. Therefore, the UN is the antithesis of the PNAC goals: for the US, or actually the corporations behind the US, to take over the world through violence.
If you think about it, the UN would (in theory) stand up against that, or at least call a spade and spade and point out that the US was a war criminal.

5. the UN exists to prevent warfare |
|
The American Right is all about colonialism- abroad and domestic forms- and there is a need for violence when they go out and "liberate" people. Usually the 'liberation' entails the murder of a leader not a tenth the monster he was claimed to be, and the disappearance of an awful lot of the most valuable commodity the society has.

9. 2 Reasons that I can think of... |
|
First, because the UN keeps passing resolutions trying to get Israel to behave so the rw'ers have deemed the UN "anti-Israel"
Second, because the UN takes on projects that try to help PEOPLE rather than corporations
