When Marine recruiters go way beyond the call

By SUSAN PAYNTER
SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER COLUMNIST

For mom Marcia Cobb and her teenage son Axel, the white letters USMC on
their caller ID soon spelled, "Don't answer the phone!"

Marine recruiters began a relentless barrage of calls to Axel as soon
as the mellow, compliant Sedro-Woolley High School grad had cut his
17th birthday cake. And soon it was nearly impossible to get the
seekers of a few good men off the line.

With early and late calls ringing in their ears, Marcia tried using
call blocking. And that's when she learned her first hard lesson. You
can't block calls from the government, her server said. So, after pleas
to "Please stop calling" went unanswered, the family's "do not answer"
order ensued.

I wish I could paste the whole thing here. PLEASE READ IT.

We need to see to it that this stops happening, and we need to see these particular marines jailed.

2. Total press gang tactics - Shanghied in Seattle
Edited on Thu Jun-09-05 06:13 PM by Divernan
He was told if he didn't like the service, he could always leave the Marines on an "apathy discharge."
And that he could serve anywhere he wanted and he didn't have to go to Iraq and similarly outrageous lies. The recruiters "whisked him away" (ie kidnapped) him from his place of employment without telling him where they were taking him. His cell phone was taken away from him so he "wouldn't be distracted while he was taking some tests. Kid was kept up allnight and pushed into signing papers he did not understand. His mom and sister had to track him down at the recruiting center. His sister saw recruiters push him into another room although they supposedly were bringing him right out. He was being urged to "stand up to your family". His sister ran after him and grabbed his arm and they left. Took a lawyer to get the recruiters to give back the signed papers.

And I haven't seen this news elsewhere. thanks for posting. This can't be posted too many times.
