Clark praises Kerry's record (Clark is a class act)
In an interview to be televised Sunday, Senator John Kerry rebuked Gen. Wesley K. Clark for dismissing his military record as that of a junior officer in Vietnam.

"That's the first time I have heard a general be so dismissive of lieutenants, who bleed a lot in wars," Mr. Kerry told the CBS News program "60 Minutes" in an interview taped on Wednesday.

On Saturday, asked by a voter in Auburn, N.H., why he would be a better president than Mr. Kerry, General Clark answered, "I like John Kerry and I've respected a lot of what he's done."

He added: "I admire his service in Vietnam. He was a hero there. He got a Silver Star, a Purple Heart, three of them. And he conducted himself with honor. He's had a great career in public service in elective office in the United States Senate."

7. No. He's been hearing the media make a big deal out of it.
He likely hasn't heard the whole story or read the transcript, so he's reacting to what he's being told or shown.

Give him a break. I give Clark a break for saying what he said, because I think he got caught up in a moment. Kerry didn't create this situation, he's answering questions about it, and we don't know HOW he said it.

20. Premature-What did Kerry say and when was it taped and how did he say it?
Was the interview taped before Clark apologized?

Was Kerry stamping his feet petulantly?

We don't know -- it doesn't air on 60 Minutes until tomorrow nite!

Everything is speculation so far. . .

17. That's what people said about Clark when he made his comment, but I stuck
up for Clark. Why are you all so quick to condemn Kerry when Kerry was probably just shown a clip of Clark's comment and asked to respond?

Grow some thicker skin. The media is blowing it out of proportion, both ways. You condemn Kerry for the same reason others condemned Clark. Neither deserve it.

10. Wait til this worm turns
It's going to come right back to Kerry and he's going to regret that he decided to act like this. I think this Times piece is just the beginning...if he weren't trying to look hurt, he would recognize that Clark wasn't "dismissive" at all.

11. Kerry went to the very bottom of my list this morning...
& it's a safe bet he is going to stay their. I thought he would be one of the few to stay above the fray & I was wrong. He a classic inside Washington person. Nothing would please me more to see all the other candidates join forces against him. It would serve this self serving Washington insider right!

12. clark was also a lieutenant
but went on to become a general. Kerry went on to become a senator. Who didn't know that? Where is the insult?

13. I think Clark's response has
a lot to do with the fact that he is not the product of the political machinery. Kerry probably didn't start out this way, maybe what I would call "political creepiness" overtakes people after years in politics. So, even though Kerry knows better, he took the low road on this one for a vote or two. Kerry knows Clark was hitting back at Dole's stupidity.
