Lou Dobbs 6/9/05
http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0506/09/ldt.01.html

Dobbs had an interesting interview with Governor Swchweitzer of Montana, and a frightening segment with Bernie Sanders and Ron Paul calling for U.S. withdrawal from the WTO.

A snip from the Sanders/Paul segment that I hope reached Americans (political affiliation aside):

" DOBBS: Before I do, Congressman, let me ask you -- because we're out of time -- but I've really got to ask this last question, because we are out of time. If you would give me -- both of you, a succinct answer. Working men and women watching you gentlemen here tonight, sitting on Capitol Hill, serving the country, what are the odds that we're going to see real representation of the views, the interests and the values of American working men and women anytime soon?

PAUL: Well, I would say we're not going to see it anytime soon. But I believe that we have to believe it can happen or we shouldn't be here in Congress. We have to be optimistic enough to work within the system to try to change it. But I think it will come. But, unfortunately, I think there's going to be a lot of pain and suffering before we wise up and do the right thing.

SANDERS: I would agree with Ron. I think we need a revolution in our political culture. We need people to be involved in politics 365 days a year. And we need people to organize to take on the big money interests, which now have a stranglehold on Washington. "

You don't need to agree with every stand Lou Dobbs takes to respect the man and his concerns. No one has taken on big business like he has.

2. Dobbs is OK at times, but the constant immigrant-bashing gets old quick
Our crises in healthcare is because of for-profit insurnace companies who refuse to cover those who need care; not because an immigrant brings their sick kid to the ER. That's just one lie I've noticed him telling recently.

10. I understand & respect your point of view.
And likewise understand and respect Dobbs' point of view.

I can take 2 opposing viewpoints and distill some truth/facts from both. That is my opinion about statements made by Dobbs and the point you made.

For the record, Dobbs does NOT bash immigrants. Your opinion as stated can be called a lie by people who disagree with you just as you characterized Dobbs' opinion as a lie.

I don't subscribe to the charge that Dobbs is a liar any more than I would call you a liar.

Dobbs keeps pounding the fact that Americans have no representation in government time and time again. That is the one fact I hope he keeps pounding into the heads of all Americans... every night. What other commentator does that?

17. I agree with you...
It's not really lying, it's what he's not saying about the concentration of wealth & power, of the media oligarchy that pays his bills. What did he have to say about the consumer bankruptcy law? About social security destruction? About rigged elections? It seems like the way he rails about immigration is a diversion. BTW, my personal view is that we should shut the borders since we are the 3rd most populous country after China & India. I know many will disagree with me, but I'm against paving over every last square inch of land to provide everyone with suburban sprawl and strip malls and prisons.

11. Sorry I missed that Mark.
And thanks for bringing it back here. I hope people take the time to view it again.

Can we get a Dobbs forum started? How can one get started?

Old news: Bernie Sanders had a commentary about Dobbs on his website in 2004:

8. It is not what Mr. Dobbs said, it is what Mr. Sanders said...
Sanders: "I think we need a revolution in our political culture. We need people to be involved in politics 365 days a year. And we need people to organize to take on the big money interests, which now have a stranglehold on Washington. "

If I may interpret and expand, and this also shares my opinion - Our American Democracy and our government need massive changes. We have to change almost every aspect of our lives and our government.

We have to move the 'importance' from corporations to citizens. Our country and our earth are dying. We need to focus on the fundamentals of living in a clean environment, to have clean water and air and safe food. We have to start producing totally clean energy and to provide more efficient infrastructure like state of the art rail systems and people movers.

We need to focus on citizen requirements, namely education, health care, and employment.

We need to remove our current murderous and evil administration to begin the process of healing.

Once our fundamentals have been taken care of, then and only then do we have a right to address the 'extra-credit' issues as religion, abortion, etc.

9. I watch Lou Dobbs regularly.
I don't agree with everything he says, like I don't agree with everything I hear on AAR, but Lou Dobbs consistently, vocally, and passionately criticizes the President. Very few television news anchors have the guts to do that. In addition, I love his heart felt passion. Like Dean he says what he thinks and has logic and facts to back up his opinions. Sometimes I take away different conclusions from the facts he presents than what he is arguing. But he doesn't just say something and expects you to believe him because he's on TV, like most of the RW pundits.

One thing that caught my attention the other day that he said was that the United States' biggest export was jobs.

He tells the truth and there are few in the media or politics who do.

13. Something Thomas Jefferson said
One of my favorite Jefferson quotes goes something like this: "It would be good if there was a revolution in this country every twenty years."
