CPS and cable censorship

the subcommittee acted to eliminate within two years all federal money for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which passes federal funds to public broadcasters, starting with a 25 percent reduction in CPB's budget for next year, from $400 million to $300 million.

The on-again, off-again fight to increase FCC indecency fines continues, as the House in February passed legislation to increase indecency fines on broadcast TV and radio. The issue is expected to hit the Senate in the near future, and Sen. Ted Stevens, R-Alaska, plans to advance legislation to expand indecency fines to cable television.

OK. No more humane shows on PBS/NPR and they want to heavily fine or remove shows and maybe channels from cable since some losers might be offended. In short, no more independent broadcasting and we pay for cable censorship. Great. Hints are out that the censorship may expand to the Net (good luck, guys). Anyone else feel as though the Soviet Union is reforming itself? BushInc has gone too far and is clearly anti-captialism.

1. You think the cable industry will just go along?
I think HBO will have something to say about it.

2. No
But Republicans might go with it anyways to keep their fundie voters. Either way they're screwed. If they do it, they might lose corporate support. If they don't now, they may lose fundie votes.

3. Then it ought to be interesting to watch
I just wonder who has more pull.

Over 40% of the Republicans in Congress count themselves among the born again.
