Must we repeat every right wing smear that we read? |
|
That Hillary Clinton/Lesbian construct is at least 10 years old.
If she's a lesbian, fine. If she's not, fine.
And what is the "culture of lesbianism" anyway? Is it any woman who doesn't want to be a fundamentalist Stepford Wife?

and can be extended to any woman who has the good sense to leave a right wing, selfish male flat or not even get involved with him in the first place.
If any woman turns them down, she's just GOT to be a lez, y'hear?

3. Yeah, I'm sure we've all heard THAT before |
|
That's the point, though. By scaring right wing straight women with the "culture of lesbianism" reference, they keep them in their straight jackets.

I like to know what the enemy is up to, what schemes they are hatching. Beats the hell out of being blindsided.

4. I'm in thorough agreement with you about keeping an eye on the enemy |
|
But we need to reframe their terminology and not repeat it, because we inadvertantly spread it that way.

9. So, instead of repeating Novak and allow the power of repetition |
|
to affect people (one way or the other), you could say something like "Novak's latest on Hillary Clinton."
But then it wouldn't get people so upset, would it.

To hell with the rethugs!! Let's concentrate on what's important to us. We know their MO-- smear, lie, smear, lie, smear... it's the same old crap and we don't need it. It's beneath us. :hippie:

8. Absolutely. But we need to REFRAME it in our own language |
|
EG: Right wing smearing Hillary again. (Yawn)
Neocons bring up tired old lesbian smear again
Neocons' fear of strong women rises to the surface again
Give the neocons hell, Hillary.
Just pick a different way to frame their message. I am not terribly good at this. I am certain there are people who are much better at it on DU.

10. Because it's so transparently pathetic of them.... |
|
It's just ludicrous. There are plenty of VALID things to criticize Hillary about. A "culture of lesbianism" is hardly at the top of that list.
It's also a beneficial exercise to know thy enemy, since we'll also have to be prepared for the lies and twisted rhetoric that they'll throw at the ACTUAL '08 nominee. ;)

11. What IS the culture of lesbianism, anyway? |
|
In my opinion, there is no such thing, at least not anything the Fundies would know about. I think they really mean the culture of feminism and stick the lesbian reference in because fundies confuse the two.

13. It's something they invented..... |
|
It's a manufactured concept to mobilize Fundie donors to donate more $$$ to right-wing U.S. Senate candidates and make sure that statewide ballot initiatives (usually banning gay marriage and civil unions) get passed in every state...over and over again.
They're like Energizer Bunnies dressed in clergy garments.

16. Yes, it is a construct, isn't it |
|
Like "The Culture of Life" which seems to be all about keeping fetuses going while killing and maiming everyone and everything else.
It's really a meaningless phrase

14. When A Republican male talks about "The Culture Of Lesbianism" |
|
what he's secretly thinking is: "Oh My God, I'm scared to death of the possibility that Dick Cheney's daughter could give my wife a better orgasm than I could."
When a Republican woman talks about "The Culture Of Lesbianism," she's thinking "Wow, I don't really remember what its like to have an orgasm, but I wonder if Dick Cheney's daughter could help me remember?"
And when Democrats talk about "The Culture Of Lesbianism" what they're wondering is "What the hell is up with the Log Cabin Rebublicans, anyway? I mean come on!"
