Bush Impeachment Effort Reaches Georgia |
|
I was driving in Augusta, GA today and was in an upper-class area of town called "The Hill." Turning on to one road there was a big sign that said in red letters: IMPEACH.
I'll be damned...if it is starting to emerge around that area perhaps the effort is actually gaining real momentum!

I'm glad somebody in the south has the sense to realize that Bush is a corrupt liar.

The south is purple not red. There are many blue islands in the purple seas as well. We are fighting the good fight daily! Cheers!

But this is just talk. A lot of people here are getting their hopes up for something that will just never happen. A lot people here are going to be dejected and at a loss for words when they eventually realize that this impeachment talk will never get much beyond the blogs and Air America radio. Wehether or not he committed impeachable offenses is not relevant. This Congress will just never allow that process to take place. Even with a Democratic Congress, there would likely be too many Vichy Democrats to make impeachment a reality. Fight the battles that are winnable.

30. That's a defeatist attitude |
|
The right has never worried about whether its battles are winnable. It attacks wherever it sees an opening. It wins some, and even when it loses, it manages to define the dialog.
That's what we need to start doing. By getting the idea of impeachment out there, we make a very strong statement about the nature of Bush's crimes. By talking about impeachment, we force the dialog onto our terms.
Frankly, I think it's an insult to DUers even to say, "A lot people here are going to be dejected and at a loss for words when they eventually realize that this impeachment talk will never get much beyond the blogs and Air America radio." Do you really think we're such fools? Do you really think we'd play into the Freepers' hands that way?
If we could get Bush defined in people's minds as "the president who ought to be impeached but won't because the Congress and the media are too corrupt," that would be an enormous victory. That's what I'm aiming for. But we need to put our all into the larger effort -- to visualize actual impeachment, if you will -- to make even that redefinition happen.

35. We should fight the battles that get our side better organized: |
|
since we can learn only by fighting the fights, waiting until victory is certain is a prescription for constant defeat.
Fighting may mean losing a number of battles; but we can make the other side's victories costly and strategically disasterous for them, so that what they at first consider "wins" turns out in the end to have been a series of terrible mistakes.
The territory is public opinion -- a shifting, uncertain ground that is easily misread from afar ...

slipping even further down the tube they will be glad to sing the impeach song irregardless of whether he will be or not. It will be good even if he is not that he goes down in history as being the worst President in history and could not be impeached because he owned every branch of govt and cowered the news media too.. That will be a great legacy if no impeachment. Even if the Dems were in power they would NEVER impeach him, they are enablers w/o fight.

The Hill is where all of the rich folk moved to escape the floods of the Savannah River. Today it is pretty much where the blue blood of Augusta lives.

11. Many of the old neighborhoods and grand homes in Augusta |
|
are occupied by Democrats. The Republicans tend to have fled to the all-white Suburbs. Augusta is a very old and historic river town. Same with Athens where I live. Lots of well-off Democrats in the town. Most Republicans live in all-white neighborhoods in the nearby counties with low minority populations. Wouldn't want the kids to go to the "black schools" you know.

I've been swamped with work and family obligations. I'm royally pissed off at my congressman (D-GA John Barrow, our former county commissioner and my friend because he voted for the Schiavo bill and, He's been re-distircted once again and is positioning himself to run in a district NORTH (Republican) of Athens. Holy crap. He's desperate and Max Burns is running again in 2006. I'm fighting a Repub takeover of the A-CC gov't. I'm going to be involved in the next mayoral race. I'm involved w/ local Dems. And, I've got a family and a horse and 3 cats and fish! Mr. CottonBear and I are going to the big Rainbow Push coalition protest in Atlanta in August.
Peace. CB :patriot:

Behavioral Health Systems on North Avenue there. I found the town quite behind (being a major University town) even more so than the little town I later moved to in South Georgia. I think the uppers live in Oconee county.
