Outsourcing: had enough yet? |
|
The floodgates have been opened on 'outsourcing' American jobs. Ex HP CEO Carli Fiorina stated that "outsourcing is good for America", and was quoted by our feckless leader, Shrub. Her replacement, Mark Hurd, has announced that HP jobs will continue to move overseas. Here is today's math quiz for DU'ers: At what point do the stock up-ticks created by 'off-shoring/out-sourcing' by a corporation balance out the bleeding of it's workers, community members, and citizens? Apparently not any time soon.... http://news.com.com/Analysts+expect+massive+HP+layoffs/2100-7341_3-5715548.html?part=rss&tag=5715548&subj=newsAnalysts expect massive HP layoffshttp://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050608/BUSINESS/506080483/1003GM to slash 25,000 jobs across U.S.http://www.indianexpress.com/full_story.php?content_id=72099India’s millionaire count surges to 69,800http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=10000080&sid=aAyXEXQ8IaDo&refer=asiaSingapore's Millionaires Increase at Fastest Pace in World

I am tempted to say outsourcing = treason
Harsh? Perhaps. Unfair? I don't think so. Given the scale at which this is happening, American business seems intent on selling out the country.

6. The only power we have left is boycotts/buycotts.... |
|
don't buy their lousy products, buy blue or from companies or countries that actually pay their employees living wages
We can make the sacrifices now, when we still have something left, or we can make them later, when we're in a depression and have nothing left

Success depends upon achieving a correct balance between contending forces. As the Buddha observed, if an instrument's string is too loose, it will not play. If it is too tight, it will break.
Perhaps labor achieved too much power and abused it back in the 60s. Or perhaps it did not use its power wisely. (Particularly in the automotive industry.) However, the pendulum has clearly swung too far the other way. Corporate power has become excessive, abusive, rampant.
People gotta organize. Boycotts, sure. But also, the labor movement has to be revived. And this time, labor must work with management to keep companies from becoming complacent, stagnant, and overly devoted to short term gains achieved at the expense of the future health of the company, its workers, and the nation.

11. Offshoring (aka outsourcing) DOES = Treason |
|
It's anti-American, & can lead to the death of Americans when they can't find work. There are people on this webboard who've been unemployed for years under Bush's 2nd Great Depression.
------------- "Prosperity is just around the corner." — Herbert Hoover "The economy has turned a corner." — GW Bush
Herbert Hoover = GW Bush
Neither man cared about the Depression their economic policies created.
