1. My hope
That he talks strictly about the issues, solutions, and a bit on how the corporate Repukes have failed us.

Dean finished his speech and asked for questions from the audience ...

nobody had one ... truly a WTF moment ...

i could just see an audience of DU'ers, each with a thousand questions ... where did they dig up this audience ???

15. not much new ...
he introduced a bunch of people who are filling various roles in the party ...

he said we are going to change and take the fight to the republicans ...

he said we need to reach out to the voters of mississippi and that even if we can't win there in the next election, if we don't get busy now we won't be winning there by 2020 either ..

Dean did well but there was nothing new ...

17. Thanks
I found a link in another thread:

My player keeps cutting out and now they've adjourned. Oh, well.

The Democratic Agenda -- really something I wanted to hear articulated, too. Anything on foreign policy, wT2? Anything at all?

20. on foreign policy
Dean said something about emphasizing cooperation of other nations ...

of course, he offered nothing tangible on Iraq, Syria or Iran ... it's funny that people keep saying the Chair is for fund-raising and he's not supposed to discuss issues ...

my take is that every American should be very involved with analyzing and discussing the issues ... even the DNC Chair ...

23. I keep hoping that whatever Dem leader is speaking
regarding a Democratic Agenda, that it will be a comprehensive agenda, but it seems the party is so committed to domestic policies, which is good, of course, that they continue to downplay national security/foreign policy, which is stupid. It does irk me.

25. are we Dems or Doms ???
maybe we should change the Party's name from the Democratic Party to the Domestocratic Party ...

we will not succeed without a clear vision on foreign policy and that has to include a non-republican position on Iraq, Syria and Iran ...

i've always been a Democrat ... i will not long remain a Domestocrat ...

31. It depends on what part of the meeting it was...if you watched a lot of it
there were actually several q & a sessions at various times and with various speakers and I saw a lot of great input.

I'm now a Dean fan after watching him and what he believes should be the direction of the party.

5. sheesh ... we need to do better than this ...
here we are on C-Span and Dean introduces the DNC pollster to give some recent news about polls ...

the guy apparently can get his laptop to work ...

it's already been almost 10 minutes with nothing but background noise to fill the airwaves ... the guy should have had his laptop setup ahead of time ...

and someone should come to the microphone ...

ahhhh, finally they got it together ... that should just not happen ...

7. Meanwhile we have a Grandma asking for the Dem Party
to come down on violence in TV and movies. WTF? That is what she is worried about? Maybe someone will take her aside after the meeting and introduce her to the power button on the remote.

If she is representative of the people in that room we are in deep doodoo. Narrow minded people with narrow agendas, are we now repug lite?

I can't believe that woman is a Dem. The guy said the polls indicate that most people aren't as concerned about "moral" issues as first reported after the elections. People want jobs, food, healthcare, fair elections and she wants us to take a stand on censorship. Geeze.

16. "People want jobs, food, healthcare, fair elections"
actually, according to the DNC pollster, jobs was number one but was followed very closely by the issue of Iraq ...

the guy went on and on analyzing faith-based voters but completely missed the point that item #2 on his list was Iraq ... and on Iraq, the Democrats have done nothing, absolutely fucking nothing, but go along with bush's occupation ...

how are we going to distinguish our Party on this issue when Democrats vote exactly the same as the republicans do ?????

22. You clearly didn't listen AT ALL
No fucking wonder we do so horribly. The guy clearly said we had hit the peak on economic voters. In fact, he said "Kerry rocked" on economic, education, health care and all of our traditional issues.

What he said was that moral values issues are not necessarily religious issues. That there is room to expand if we focus on parenting issues because parents are feeling like they're losing control over their ability to raise their kids with their own values. Which led to that violence comment that I totally disagree with, btw.

If you got that we can stick to the economy and win more voters, you weren't listening. We can't.

28. Well, yeah, except
We came to these conclusions months ago, and have had them fine-tuned by Nick's exit poll analysis. The solution is parental support, maybe Child Protective Services Reform, or developing social education programs that can be adjusted locally, community building which is what I thought was the real value of Kerry's service program. Stuff like that, NOT censorship and especially not censorship of violence. We lost that ten years ago. These value voters can SAY anything they want, they are not going to give up their action movies! One problem we've still got in the Democratic Party is that it is city oriented. Cities in various states don't listen to their rural voters, so the real view of rural people never filters up. Then they do these polls and think that people actually SAY what they really do, and one thing I know from living in rural America, they DON'T.

Exit poll analyses:

29. I agree with you about that, and I disagree with what the woman
said, but I don't think many in that meeting agreed with her either. She seemed desperate.

There are many things that people in this country have in common; we don't have to chew on that one again. What I found myself wondering was why can't the Dems impress upon the "faith voters" that separation of church and state helps to *protect* their faiths, that history very plainly shows that when you let government get its nose into your religion, all hell breaks loose?

I was a bit alarmed at the guy who questioned why Dems don't have their own set of preachers--for the same reason. The last thing we want to do is to imitate the right in that respect, it seems to me. Again, I don't think many in the room agreed with him, either.

I'll send the DNC a note.

33. She seemed to be pushing an agenda
She probably cares a great deal about violence and thinks people might respond to that message.

I agree on separation of church & state, it protects religion and keeps the government's nose out of it. But I think it's better to push the personal freedom or personal independence, because that's the ticket in the west and we're more likely to swing that. Live and Let Live.

I don't think that guy was saying we needed our own set of preachers, but that we needed people who could speak to values, who represent values. Jim Wallis comes to mind, but we need more. Teresa Heinz is actually a tremendous values speaker. Elizabeth Edwards too. Nothing wrong with talking about community and family traditions. Actually, it's traditions rural people want to protect.

Not just in the West. Good strategy, and one that is being used in Dem speeches recently.

32. Yes he is, especially when he says Dems will reach out to all 50 states
and he seems to be on top of sooooo many issues. I am sure he will critique all the issues for Dem cohesion. Dean is the man of his times. Did you get that moral values encompasses more THAN ABORTION AND GAY RIGHTS. The real moral values is now going to be presented rather than just this repug hypocritical say one thing and do another
no values.

It wasn't a fire-up-the-troops speech, not it's purpose. I thought it was good, glad to see Dean implementing a more inclusive plan instead of abandoning many states. The Rethugs deserve no more low hanging fruit.
