Isn't Bob Kerrey's image, like, way beyond repairing
Is this just me?

I thought if you checked the "committed war crimes" box on the application for running for an elected office, you pretty much were out of the running for getting at least a Democratic Party nomination for further elected offices.

You don't get that kind of publicity unless someone is trying to circulate your name.

44. This is your evidence that Bob Kerrey is being considered for VP? ROFL
Senator John Kerry. I used to confuse this Massachusetts senator with Senator Bob Kerrey of Nebraska. They're both Vietnam combat veterans. To avoid the confusion, Kerry should get the nomination, and he could name Kerrey as his VP running mate. Can you imagine the debates between Kerry-Bush and Kerrey-Cheney? Kerry could ask where Bush was during the Vietnam war (AWOL from his Texas air base) while the future senator was putting his money where his mouth was. Kerry even killed a guy. He could stand up (he's tall enough) and ask Dubya, "How fast can you disassemble, clean, and reassemble an M-16?" and when Bush gives him his jive answer, have an aide bring out two of the assault rifles for each to disassemble, clean, and reassemble. Kerry is also presidentially attractive. Plus, his middle name starts with an F, so his initials are JFK. This will pull on the nation's heartstrings. I personally believe that Kerry is the only one who even stands a chance of preventing a Bush election in 2004. He's got foreign policy savvy... wait, people don't care about that. He's good looking and tall, and a fairly engaging speaker. Kerry/Kerrey in 2004!

So there's 149 stories in the mainstream media about Bob Kerrey at the present time.

The Google News database only seraches the last 30 days.

So there have been 149 stories in major media sources about Bob Kerrey in the last 30 days.

Edited on Mon Dec-22-03 04:56 PM by mouse7
I thought his career was done. I'd love to have links for evidence that clears BOB KERREY. The last I had heard, there was a big investigation that his unit had committed attrocities.

And yes, I know the difference between Bob Kerrey and John Kerry. About 1500 miles in the states they served from for one. Bob Kerrey left the Senate to take over as Prez or Chancellor or something at the New School, I think.

By the way, I like Bob Kerrey. He's a little conservative for me, but he was GREAT on the ground in the Florida 2000 mess advocating for Gore. However, other than seeing Kerrey give a couple of 30 second intros for speakers at the New School on CSPAN, I have heard zero about Bob Kerrey since the accusations were made. I don't claim to know all about the political scene, but I'm somewhat in the loop, and reasonably well informed. If I hadn't heard anything, there was a pretty good chance nothing new had broken since the story broke.

Yep, I have seen some pretty lame defenses on DU, but this thread was just too much. If the original post wasn't bait, it should have been :-)

I mean that was the ultimate gotcha! Especially as the original post was in NO WAY deceptive about its meaning. All of the deception happened in the minds of the supporters as they fooled themselves into seeing something that was not there, then reacted violently to it!

37. Keeping BOB KERREY out of a VP slot is a BIG issue
Bob Kerrey has unresolved war crime accusations. IF there is anything to said accusations, and if there is no evidence to clear BOB KERREY of said accusations, keeping BOB KERREY as far as possible from a 2004 national ticket is of the highest priority.

I'm sorry you are easily confused. I'm sorry there are others easily confused in the world, too. However, that isn't my problem. Getting updated on this issue and reminding people that it would be a bad idea for everyone (including John Kerry) to have their name mentioned in conjuction with someone who may have commited war attrocities until BOB KERREY can act to clear his name.

41. No, you are just being disingenuous in your posts on this thread..
You were trying to be cute in tying the 2 together. I wasn't confused at all...I know a smear job when I see one.

Pathetic, trying to turn this into an "education" thread after we've outed your little hack attempt.

As far as Kerrey's "unresolved war crimes" and "may have committed war atrocities" accusations, I am in no position to confirm or deny that these allegations are true.....are you?

Do you keep tuning into PGA telecasts expecting to see "Against All Odds"

I doubt it. Matter of fact, I doubt ANYBODY tunes into "Mississippi Burning" expecting to see some long drives off the tee and good wedge play.

The whole world is used to the concept there are more people than last names.

One more tip. Don't ever go on a visit to Korea or Punjab India. The Kims and Singhs will melt your brain to slag.

42. When was BOB Kerrey formally accused of war crimes? Did I miss the case?
And it was pretty clear the thread starter mentioned running for elective office which BOB KERREY is NOT doing..unless you have proof other than a blog for that.

I hadn'tnoticed anyone defending John Kerry so much as taking aim at a CHEAP shot, but thanks for giving us the insight on what you find humorous....cheap shots like the one you took at Will in that post.

Thanks :D you make a difference

51. Vice President is an national elective office
The Constitution... umm.... you might wanna glance at that.

Vice Presidents are selected by the electoral college. Electors are chosen by the American people at the same time they cast their vote for president.

56. YOu still have failed at demonstrating he is being considered by anyone
for VP.

I have read the entire constitution. One has to be a little familiar with it to get a JD...however, you mis-read the BLOG up above that was talking about Cleland being considered by Koz for VP NOT BOB KERREY, so I wouldn't trust you to read and interpret the constitution for me anyway until you prove yourself adept at interpreting the more remedial stuff like a blog.

95. Evidence that he is considered a possible candidate all over thread
You're so desperate to cover the fact that you spent your whole afternoon in the ridiculous attempt to claim people can't tell the difference in the name Bob and the name John that you arre desperate for a win on this thread no matter how you ave to get it.

Lie about me? Fine.

Lie about my evidence? Fine.

You went to the Karl Rove school of debate and executed the lessons flawlessly. Lie. Distort. Distract. Lie some more.

You really don't think anyone who reads this thread will feel better about you as a persona as a result of your behavior, do you?

The only thing you accomplished today was flush some respect people might have had away.

If you do, then you can tell the difference between Bob Kerrey and John Kerry.

You're the one who is claiming it impossible for human being to determine the difference to differentiate between the names Bob and John.

You're the one indicting your ability to make accurate accessments about things, not me.

57. Bob Kerrey admitted to participating in war crimes.
Here's a link:

http://www.wsws.org/articles/2002/jun2002/kerr-j06.shtml

From the article there:

"In a section that is remarkably brief, given that Kerrey has said the event changed his life, the author speaks only in the vaguest terms about his own actions on the night of February 25, 1969, when he led his Navy SEAL squad into the tiny hamlet in the southern Mekong Delta. He writes:

“My point man led the way. He came to a house he said he believed was occupied by sentries. We had been trained that in such situations it would be too risky to move forward knowing that they would warn the men in the village unless we killed them or aborted the mission. I did not have to give an order to begin the killing but I could have stopped it and I didn’t.”"

As I understand it, he supported the invasion of Iraq and has been appointed to the 9/11 (whitewash) commission.

62. He was also on the board of the Committee to Liberate Iraq but the thread
starter still hasn't proven that he is on ANYONE'S short list as a VP..and given the still undetermined status of his actions in Viet Nam, I seriously DOUBT he will be on anyone's short list unless they are committing sepuku.

Except that a self-admitted war criminal and pro-war advocate has been appointed to the commission investigating 9/11.

Let's hope that none of the Democrat candidates would have Bob Kerrey on any list for anything. An assumption that none of them are considering him is far from assured, given that 4 of them seem to have no problem in advocating for Bush's war.

And only two were in the Rose Garden taking photo ops Lieberman and Gep along with Bayh whom I have NO DOUBTS wants to be in the second position on the ticket.

We probably DO disagree on the significance of the IWR vote since not one anti-IWR vote DU'er has yet to prove to me that war wouldn't have happened anyway.
