Creating a Christian flag for God and country (sales are up)

http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/local/bal-md.flag12jun12,1,938178.story?coll=bal-local-headlines&ctrack=1&cset=true

Marcia Thompson Eldreth sees in the United States a Christian nation, inspired by Scripture and dedicated to propositions conveyed in biblical prophesy. She asks: Why not a U.S. national Christian flag?

"Our nation was based on Judeo-Christian principles," Eldreth said. "Blessed is the country whose God is Lord."

She was sitting in her Cecil County kitchen here the other day, sharing the story of how she came to design and arrange for manufacturing and selling a national Christian flag that since last year has gained national attention on The 700 Club, a religious news magazine television show hosted by, among others, the Rev. Pat Robertson. The taped segment is scheduled to appear on the program for a second time Tuesday, Flag Day.

Eldreth figures this year's show will again inspire a rush of orders for the flag, which shows an American bald eagle in flight, holding in its beak a quote from the New Testament, in its talons a bloody crucifix

She has made 2,500 of the banners, but is not sure how many she has sold.

are you throwing up yet?

I'll break the law if I ever see one of these flags.

37. There's actually one part of that flag that I agree with
Edited on Mon Jun-13-05 08:14 PM by Bucky
The scripture from the Bible (which the eagle is carrying in its beak) oughta warn us about people trying to religionize the country:
"Take heed that no man deceive you"

Excellent advice! Also worth noting is how the soaring eagle looks a whole lot like the NRA's eagle logo, only instead of carrying a weapon symbolizing self defense, its carrying an implement of state sponsored torture.

What I don't get is why the flag image says "copyright 2003" on it. If it's a national symbol, shouldn't it be public domain? I'll bet Betsy Ross didn't copyright her flag!

5. Just raise ORIGINAL flag of the country - The Gadsden - Don't Tread on Me
Edited on Sun Jun-12-05 11:45 AM by blm
The stars and stripes were just a compromise with those royalists loyal to Britain's colors, anyway.

Don't Tread on Me was Ben Franklin's choice. He said this country would never strike another first but will strike BACK.

It also said NO KING GEORGE

but.... the updated version would read FUCK YOU KING GEORGE!

6. This woman is a lunatic!
"Eldreth is untroubled by the notion of combining American and Christian symbols this way, as she quickly answers yes when asked whether the American purpose in the world is a specifically Christian project. Short of curbing freedom of religion, the U.S. government should not shy from declaring its service to scriptural ends, Eldreth said."

8. A lot of people will break the law over one of those things
especially people who have fought in wars under it. The hubris of the fake Christians is astonishing. Every time I think they've don their ultimate unchristian outrage, they go and top it.

I don't know what it will take to get through to these sanctimonious dickheads. Maybe getting beaten to a pulp by a gang of ex Marines who don't want their flag changed would do it.

11. Thomas Jefferson: They are all alike founded on fables and mythology...
Thomas Jefferson:

I have examined all the known superstitions of the world, and I do not find in our particular superstition of Christianity one redeeming feature. They are all alike founded on fables and mythology. Millions of innocent men, women and children, since the introduction of Christianity, have been burnt, tortured, fined and imprisoned. What has been the effect of this coercion? To make one half the world fools and the other half hypocrites; to support roguery and error all over the earth.

SIX HISTORIC AMERICANS,
by John E. Remsburg, letter to William Short

Jefferson again:

Christianity...(has become) the most perverted system that ever shone on man. ...Rogueries, absurdities and untruths were perpetrated upon the teachings of Jesus by a large band of dupes and importers led by Paul, the first great corrupter of the teaching of Jesus.

More Jefferson:

The clergy converted the simple teachings of Jesus into an engine for enslaving mankind and adulterated by artificial constructions into a contrivance to filch wealth and power to themselves...these clergy, in fact, constitute the real Anti-Christ.
Jefferson's word for the Bible?

Dunghill.

John Adams:

Where do we find a precept in the Bible for Creeds, Confessions, Doctrines and Oaths, and whole carloads of other trumpery that we find religion encumbered with in these days?
Also Adams:

The doctrine of the divinity of Jesus is made a convenient cover for absurdity.
Adams signed the Treaty of Tripoli. Article 11 states:

The Government of the United States is not in any sense founded on the Christian religion.
Here's Thomas Paine:

I would not dare to so dishonor my Creator God by attaching His name to that book (the Bible).
Among the most detestable villains in history, you could not find one worse than Moses. Here is an order, attributed to 'God' to butcher the boys, to massacre the mothers and to debauch and rape the daughters. I would not dare so dishonor my Creator's name by (attaching) it to this filthy book (the Bible).
It is the duty of every true Deist to vindicate the moral justice of God against the evils of the Bible.
Accustom a people to believe that priests and clergy can forgive sins...and you will have sins in abundance.
The Christian church has set up a religion of pomp and revenue in pretended imitation of a person (Jesus) who lived a life of poverty.

Finally let's hear from James Madison:

What influence in fact have Christian ecclesiastical establishments had on civil society? In many instances they have been upholding the thrones of political tyranny. In no instance have they been seen as the guardians of the liberties of the people. Rulers who wished to subvert the public liberty have found in the clergy convenient auxiliaries. A just government, instituted to secure and perpetuate liberty, does not need the clergy.

Madison objected to state-supported chaplains in Congress and to the exemption of churches from taxation. He wrote:

Religion and government will both exist in greater purity, the less they are mixed together.

These founding fathers were a reflection of the American population. Having escaped from the state-established religions of Europe, only 7% of the people in the 13 colonies belonged to a church when the Declaration of Independence was signed.

and the press release!

http://www.uschristianflag.com/yes.htm

"“I am not politically correct. Many here in northeastern Maryland have risen up along with millions of other likeminded Christians to come against the lies of secularism and liberalism. We are here to declare truth. That is the only way our nation will remain free. Christ is truth and His Word is truth”, Eldreth said."

“Oh but the wicked shepherds; woe, woe, woe! Judgment begins in the house of the LORD. The clerics who are calling what is wrong right, they would destroy our innocent wide eyed children,” says Eldreth. “Christ told us that it was better for a millstone to be hung around the neck of a person and they be cast into the sea rather than to offend one of these little ones. Zechariah 11:17 says of idol shepherds that the sword shall be upon his arm and upon his right eye: his arm shall be clean dried up, and his right eye shall be utterly darkened.

Does that mean she's going to kill us? I don't want to be cast into the sea in a purification of America.

38. Well, on your last question the answer is usually, eventually, yes.
Edited on Mon Jun-13-05 08:13 PM by DuaneBidoux
It is the inevitable denouement of that philosophy when taken to its limit.

We as progressives and liberals may soon get to answer the question "why didn't Germans stand up to the Nazis when they took power?"

To pretend this is not still gaining momentum is to be seriously blinded. We may well move to a point someday when we must decide if the America we love must be saved from fascism. And as distasteful absolutely as it is for us to bear arms--as much as it goes against our deepest nature, I still do believe there are things worth dying and killing for. If we sit still when the Christofascists seize absolute control we will never again deserve to call ourselves Americans.

Is it the same flag as this:

found at: http://www.uschristianflag.com/

....

The Image and Colors :
The eagle carrying the cross represents the American Christian taking the gospel around the world declaring Christ's shed blood for the people.
The Purple represents His royalty, the White represents His purity, the Red represents His shed blood, and the Blue represents His bruises.
The 50 stars that create the border of the flag represent all the Christians of the United States banding together to protect our right to preach the gospel and to protect our Christian heritage.
The Scriptures are Matthew 24:4 "take heed no man deceive you" and Matthew 24:14 "and this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world ......and then shall the end come". This flag is evangelical and prophetic. The mission is called "Operation Band Together". Is there not a cause?

They claim to be willing to answer all of your Questions:
....
We hope you will take a minute and look the site over. Some of our story from the beginning, the Band Together Mission, our mission of the month, pictures, etc. are here.

If you ever have any questions that the website can't answer, please feel free to email us or give us a call. We would be happy to speak with you! Our email address is uschristianflag@zoominternet.net and our phone number is 1-866-871-7384.

Let us make a Wave Offering to our LORD!

They seam like radical fundamentalists clerics to me.
I prefer Christians who follow Christ, they never want to burn me and they prefer love and peace to hate and war as do I.
