Cornyn: "decidedly anti-American" in Greece, Turkey, Hungary and Romania.
No shit, Sherlock..and HE thinks Karen Hughes will be the cure for it.

http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/news/washington/columnists/tgillman/stories/061205dnnattexwatch.136a9d4b1.html

Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, returned from a European fact-finding trip impatient for the administration to follow through on promises to bolster America's image abroad.

"That's one of the biggest glaring deficiencies in our foreign policy, is our failure of public diplomacy," Mr. Cornyn said, citing the "decidedly anti-American" bent he encountered in Greece, Turkey, Hungary and Romania.

Three months ago, President Bush picked longtime adviser Karen Hughes as the new undersecretary of state for public diplomacy. But he has yet to formally ask the Senate to confirm her. She's not expected to start before the fall.

"She can't come fast enough for me," Mr. Cornyn said. He recounted a lunch at which a Bosphorus University professor asked why the U.S. invaded Iraq – the premise being that the invasion stemmed from imperialist motives and a desire to steal Iraqi oil.

1. So...he'll vote 'no' on Bolton, right?
If one of our biggest problems is public diplomacy, then Bolton clearly isn't a good choice by Cornyn's standards. Hope you Texans nail him on this.

3. ROFL, still delusional I see
What he wants is for Karen to 'fix' the image the same way bush and blair 'fixed' the intelligence with no substance all optics. It will fail miserably as have all the attempts by all those before Karen have failed because it is not the image that is the problem it is the actions.

4. Did he ask how the people in these countries regarded the U.S.
when Bill Clinton was president?

The anti-American feeling is due to the Bush administration.

6. No, everyone hates bush, Clinton was welcomed and respected
around the world and still is. Using the false term 'anti-America' is a way to cover up the fact it is the bush administration that is loathed.

9. America as a whole is now decidedly unpopular.
I speak only from my own experiences in England, Spain and France here: You are right to say that the US was respected under Clinton, but here in Europe, hatred for Bush has definately tainted Americ's image as a whole. When Clinton was in charge, the dominant American stereotype in Europe was a stylish, liberal Californian, whose main fault was an obsession with diets and odd new age religions. Now the percieved face of the USA a fat, ignorant, small-minded, malicious hick. Also, however incorrectly, Bush is seen as being a highly popular President, and wholly representative of the American public.

11. If bush were to resign, be impeached, leave office
and a President who believe in diplomacy rather than bullying, there would be a sea-change in how Europeans see the US. Most 'anti-American' rhetoric have been framed around bush not the US as a whole and that was what I was trying to say in my post.

There is little doubt there is less forbearance since bush was re-elected in 04 as that was seen as the US public supportive of the cabal's actions and foreign policies.

Their not Anti-American, their Anti-Bush. There is a huge difference and the pro-Bush idiots want to make it the same thing.
