This is a letter from a friend of mine who is a co-moderator in the Yahoo Group "I Hate Bush Fan Club" I have asked her to join DU and post her lengthy letters here directly. She said she would but asked me to post this lattest one for her until she did. - Sellitman
Dear Editor:
As a committee member for the Democratic Party here in New York as well as a political editorialist for several web sites such as Buzzflash.com and the LiberalPatriot.org, I would like to take time and respond to David Berg's commentary, "Dearest Howard Dean" where the subtitle states, "P.S.: You should give some thought to resigning now" Why is he asking Governor Dean to resign instead of using his voice demanding that Pres. Bush be impeached especially in light of the Downing Street Memo? I have seen images of dead and injured Iraqi children who were murdered by President Bush who is supposedly a pro-life president yet can see fit to invade a country based upon lies. That is not a very "Christian" thing to do. As I have looked upon these images which haunt me day to day any comment made by me makes Governor Dean's comments pail in comparison. These children I speak of were equally terrorized as Pres. Bush ordered those bombs dropped on their homes as those of us who were terrorized on September 11th.
Mr. Berg states, "We purposely limited our discussion to problems within the party, did not blame President Bush or Karl Rove and, in fact, spoke admiringly, if grudgingly, of their political skills." Excuse me, Mr. Berg?! What you should be doing is tearing into President Bush thereby leading those you have spoken to and have had discussions with. How can anyone admire someone who has lied to the American people to invade a sovereign nation where there has been a massive loss of life? By the way, I am tired of hearing how some admire the skills used by this president where the only thing that should be said is how they condemn this president.
Mr. Berg makes mention of former Bill Clinton in the following statement, "Bill Clinton's ability to say things in a way that reassured a broad spectrum of voters rather than frightened them." These are not normal times but very dangerous times and I think that the American people should be frightened as to what is being done to their country. We have already had some reassurance by this President after September 11th and look at where that has landed us. An illegal war in Iraq, a budget deficit for years to come, social programs being slashed, and a bill signed which became law known as the U.S.A. Patriot Act that imperils us all. The American people need some blunt talk and I am proud where Governor Dean has opened up this debate. In a letter to Senator Biden where he attacked Governor Dean, I stated this in my support for Governor Dean, "His bluntness is the very thing that I was drawn to instead of the political double speak where many things are said, without anything being said."
I would like to remind Mr. Berg that a brave man from the British Parliament came to our senate subcommittee looking into the oil for food scandal whose name is George Galloway where he stated this as he spoke to Sen. Norm Coleman, "Senator, in everything I said about Iraq, I turned out to be right and you turned out to be wrong and 100,000 people paid with their lives; 1600 of them American soldiers sent to their deaths on a pack of lies; 15,000 of them wounded, many of them disabled forever on a pack of lies." That blunt talk has endeared George Galloway to many people out here. One would expect an open proceeding to be published for all to see on the senate web site, but oddly it does not appear there so that our citizens can read it. I have in my hands the full testimony of George Galloway and if the American people could read it on their senate's web site, they like me would be quick to anger. Upon returning home to the United Kingdom, he was met with a standing ovation and where many are looking to him to make a national tour here. In my opinion, America needs to listen to Mr. George Galloway.
Governor Dean’s comment on Congressman DeLay is right on point especially during the redistricting of congressional districts in Texas led by Cong. DeLay caused many Texas legislators to flee to Oklahoma. A few years ago, the Capital Police were called on Congressional Democrats who disagreed with Congressional Republicans. I would like to know why Cong. DeLay has not faced any grand jury where it is alleged he has breached many house ethics rules. America can not be led by men who openly thumb their nose at the laws which this country was founded on.
All and all, I stand firmly shoulder to shoulder with the chairman of my party Governor Dean. Governor Dean is not the problem, Pres. Bush and elected leaders from our own party who have sided with this president are the problem. My end message to Mr. Berg is, "Let Dean be Dean!" Perhaps if Governor Dean was our nominee for president, George W. Bush would be in Texas today. Our party and more importantly our country needs warriors who speak to the truth and not those too afraid of a good fight.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Mary MacElveen
