ABC shows Teens Can't Get Jobs because "Retirees/Downsided Taking Them! |
|
Edited on Sun Jun-12-05 06:48 PM by KoKo01
I think Terry Moran and CBS were trying to Focus on what's going on in America with this "segment" but it could be interepreted in two ways.
#1: Teens are being cut out of jobs because "old Senior Citizens are scapping up the "flower watering" segment at "Home Depot" cutting the children of the wealthy out of earning a living to show them "work is good and fun...watering plants at Home Depot"
OR
#2: Senior Citizens (who should have reaped rewards of "Retirement" according to Moran are now forced to take jobs watering and selling plants at Home Depot to make money that they couldn't earn because their retirement savings and pensions are being gutted or are in jepardy beccause of Bush. Terry did say that the Teens not getting Summer Jobs is Worst in Four Years....(Who has been P-Resident during that time?) :eyes:
Anyway, I thought it was a good report and if I had any faith that the "Whore Media" was "turning" I might get excited about Terry Moran's report. But given the lies and crap we DU'ers have been fed ....oh these many years...why should I believe that CBS is really not PITTING YOUTH AGAINST AGE...and CLASS WARFAIR?

They don't want to "waste" the time training them for a minimum wage job for just the summer when they can train the Seniors to work all year round - part time, no benefits.

2. Sad thing is...how much training does it take to teach SS how to |
|
water plants at Home Depot. :eyes:

5. I don't understand the point about "children of the wealthy" |
|
being cut out of jobs at Home Depot, it doesn't make any sense to me - what is he talking about?

6. He interviewed a teen who couldn't get a job after filling out forms for |
|
job at Home Depot and looking elsewhere. My comment about "children of the wealthy" was that it would seem to me there are lots of jobs that one could find out there...like "mowing lawns" and going door to door asking neighbors if they might know of a job that might help out a summer tean like babysitting doing errands whatever.
I was once a Teen in a bad job market and I wasn't looking to throw seniors out so I could survive. So, I assumed that those looking for jobs haven't really done enough "pavement pounding" and that they are children of the wealthy. It may have been a very "harsh" misinterpretation of the "children of the wealthy" on my part, though.

deal with the growth of population!

13. I don't know that people hire teens to do that kind of work |
|
anymore. The snow shoveling and lawn mowing seem to have moved to the people who have seasonal businesses, are reliable and do a professional job. Parents are a lot pickier about who they will hire to babysit. I know when my kids were younger I would rather stay home then leave them in the care of a teen I didn't personally know.
A lot of kids in our community do have jobs, working at Bertucci's, CVS, Panera, etc., maybe this is a problem more in urban areas than suburban?

8. "Children of the Wealthy" -- Hah. In Franklin Lakes, the parents would |
|
rather die than see their precious children "work" at jobs that suggest labor and toil, such as mowing lawns, McDonalds, and/or Home Depot. These kids are put to work in Daddy's office.

7. And have you noticed the current increase in available "Granny Porn"? |
|
The seniors are getting VERY desperate for cash indeed.

9. What! Are you pushing some Senior Citizen Porn Site, here? WHAAAA? |
|
I guess there are always sicko's and folks trying to make money, but I don't think most Senior Females are doing "Granny Porn." :-(

It's interesting that it looks (from what people have said; I didn't see the segment) that ABC news is trying to "blame the seniors". (Damn them, first they're demanding "handouts" of their social security, & now they're stealing jobs from teens! </sarcasm> ) Instead of making the obvious statement/conclusion that it's the lack of jobs and offshoring/inshoring that's causing the problem....

15. As a teenager looking for a summer job... |
|
... I must agree, it's hell. And it's not just seniors, but adults in general who are holding all the minimum wage jobs. Most yards around here are either mowed by teens as chores, or by professional companies. My sister babysits, but I've never been good with that.

16. Do you really think...?? |
|
Do you think that seniors are really taking all the minimum wage jobs or are there just aren't as many available as in previous years???
