Good post on Daily Kos re Kerry
Very perceptive post, esp in terms of his speaking style.
I guess I can see the similarity with Bob Dole now that
this guy points it out.

"Kerry the Frontrunner
Sat Jan 24th, 2004 at 20:09:33 GMT

The media is ready, they've got a candidate up riding momentum, and all that seems to be in waiting for John Kerry is to become the anointed (like they knew all along). Winning Iowa and New Hampshire, they will say, all but determines this is over. But, if you look under the hood of John Kerry's campaign machine, you'll see little depth. Kerry had to self-fund himself in order to even remain in the contest, and up until a few days ago, was absent from having much any of an official ground presence or media exposure, in the seven 2/3 contests. John Kerry, in December, pooled all the resources into Iowa, bet on Red, and won. Now he's in New Hampshire with the lead, just a few days before the primary election.

Standing in front of Gephardt's now-defunct Manchester campaign HQ's, talking with a construction supporter from North Carolina, I thought, why is Kerry, already likely to win here on Tuesday, investing further resources by setting up last-minute phone banks, instead of setting up offices in the 2/3 states? Either Kerry senses that the early reports of Dean's demise are just that, and this really is close, or ( check out te "best against Bush" poll numbers), Kerry's going for the crushing blow in NH by pulling over nearly all the late deciders.
...
Then I walk into the speech, 30 or so minutes late, and get to within 20 feet rather easily. I tried to recall what was there, back around December of 2000 & January of 2001, when I thought of myself as a Kerry backer. He's very competitive, knows how to win, and likes the outdoors. But the speech seems tired, uninspiring, and even more listless then when I last saw him speak on the campaign trail 10 months ago.
...
The event is Veterans-focused, war stories ramble on, it does nothing for me but bring Bob Dole to mind..."

Form your own opinion.

They've been showing a Kerry townhall meeting from NH on C-Span.

3. I've formed my own opinion based on the behavior of the candidates.
Clark being above the fray.
Kerry being below the fray.
Don't much appreciate his stealth attacks.

6. So you watched the town hall meeting
and DailyKos confirmed your opinion that Kerry is like Bob Dole?

and I don't much like his tactics. He certainly knows how to play the game; I'll give him that. Hope it backfires.

10. dailykos is frustrating
When I first started reading it it was some great poll analysis etc.. then it became the outlet for a bunch of people to bash everyone (especially Kerry) but dean and occasionally Clark.

The more I read the more i thought they could just attach themselves to the Dean blog and change their domain to dailykosfordeanforamerica.

All those talented analysts... dern. But yes, I know I shouldn't expect any semblance of fairness from a blog.

5. Hasn't Daily Kos been pro-Dean for a while?
Comparing Kerry to Dole is either lazy journalism or sour grapes. Showing up late for a speech and making an assessment shows what kind of journalism that is. It reminds me of something Bob Novak would do.

Every speech I've seen with Kerry recently is with packed houses and he still thunders out a great message even with a sore throat.

7. Bingo! DailyKos is being unfair to John Kerry. He is a winner...
just as Clark and Edwards are. Dean has problems such as his temper. Maybe we should discuss this a little more.

9. Yes, he is pro-Dean
I would like to call him the "Poll Blogger". He is always up-to-date on all of the national, state, and Senate polls.

Anyhow, his prediction was way off for Iowa. Then again, so was everyone elses.

What does that mean? I don't think it means he is wrong. I think it means that polls in this Democratic primary are BS because the field is way too crowded.

"Check out their wives, dude."

"self-financed" meme, the "Bob Dole" meme, the "media wants him" meme, but he neglected the "prostate cancer" meme, although that might have appeared to be piling on, so it was probably a good decision to hold that one for later. He also did a good job with the "<h>e's very competitive, knows how to win, and likes the outdoors" bit as though there's nothing else about Kerry worth mentioning.

I imagine that if one read every fifth letter of every third word (or every second letter of every fourth word or something like that) there'd be a subliminal message about "Skull and Bones" in there somewhere, but it's a little too late at night for me to hunt it down.

All in all, a good, if all too predictable, Daily Kos offering.

13. That wasn't written by Kos
It was written by Jerome Armstrong, who was one of the earliest and most active Dean supporters on the Net. This is his old site. A great blogger but definitely not the guy to go to to get objective analysis of Kerry.

14. It shows they are getting desperate.
I hoep they eventually support the dem nominee. I read some comments on there of people who said now that Dean has imploded they would be switching their support to the socialist candidate. Boy, that's productive!
