Are some Democrats trying to set things up to oust Dean? |
|
It seems obvious to me why certain Democrats are piling on Dean now. I think that they are setting the stage to pressure Dean to resign as DNC chair. I believe that the real prize for them is the presidential nomination, and they seen Dean as an impediment to getting the nomination. I think that they are willing to sabotage Dean, and the Democratic Party, so that if gains aren't made in the 2006 elections, they can blame him, and try and force him out before he can influence the 2008 primaries.

11. Hey, wait. If he goes, HE GETS TO RUN FOR PREZ!! |
|
IOW: Dean (and we) win either way.
It would be awful for the Party, though, and might splinter it totally apart. Dean has brought a LOT of people intot he party, and awakened and excited and inspired a good many more of us.

I would pay-per-view to see what Dr. Dean would have done in the debates last fall!

2. If they force Dean's ouster, they will divide and weaken |
|
the Democratic Party. Too many of the real activists on the precinct level are Dean supporters. Many who did not support Dean in the primaries before the 2004 election, like me, support his chairmanship. he is doing the right thing. He is fighting the Republican extremists on their own turf -- insult and overgeneralization. Good for him.

3. If they succeed, the Democratic Party had better pick out it's tombstone |

In fact, they need to leave the party NOW before trying anything so foolish.

5. If they've been listening to call in shows and such... |
|
I think they'll see the light. Dean has the popular support of everyday Dems across the country, and any move to remove him would be disastrous for these wimpy Dems. We don't need another Terry McAuliffe, we need Dean.

6. Dean took the DNC Chair instead of running in '08 ... |
|
... or at least that's what he said.
I think they're piling on to test the waters - to see which way the 'base' of the party should lean - ie, if the regular voting folks defend him, then they'll shut up soon enough and start to let him keep on keepin' on & perhaps even take on his message ... but if the regular folks are pissed and turn the Dems off, then the career politicians/hopeful candidates will continue to be pissed at him too.
He's a crash test dummy - for lack of a better term - at this point.

I think we need to make this our mantra.
If he goes, I go with him
We need every weakling DINO to understand this. Write them and tell them that we back Dean and if he's ousted, we'll go with him to a third party.
I'm sick and fucking tired of this shit. And I'm going to stand firm and support principle.

9. he's still very popular with state party chairs, |

and they put him there, so I don't think so.
(So says Karen Tumulty of Time on a TV chat show, for what that's worth.)

It was state party delegates, which include state chairs but it a much bigger group than just chairs, that put him there. I forget the exact number of votes -- 435?? Maybe someone remembers.

but the way this keeps coming up it's almost as if some strong Dean supporters relish the prospect. There has been nothing coming from the Democratic leadership to lead to such speculation and yet there has been thread after thread on the topic giving many the opportunity to say over and over again "if he goes, I go."
What gives -- how about looking for some actual evidence of these claims before leaping to conclusion. I know, I know ... that sets the bar pretty high.

this. It's too bad people believe it. I've been a Deaniac for years, but as I said in another thread, I don't for a minute believe that Obama or Edwards is out to oust Dean any more than I believe they or other responsible Dems were out to oust Kerry during the last election.
Obama, in particular, was one of DFA's Dean Dozen.
We live in bizarre times. The media and right wingers love to milk this stuff.

|
I don't think they are trying to oust Dean. He's useful to them. Not only can he raise money (media and repub claims aside) and fire up the base, but, he can make them look more centrist.
You can't be in the middle if there is no one standing on your left.

19. Dean is a "master politician".. |
|
he's not going anywhere except all over the Country..rearanging politics like they've never been rearranged before. "Harry Truman famously said, in response to calls that he “Give ‘em Hell,” that “I just tell the truth and they think it’s hell.” It brought him victory in an election Truman had no business winning, in 1948, an election that really kept Democrats dominant for 20 years, despite the rise of suburbia, and made possible both the Warren Court and the Civil Rights movement.
No Democrat on Earth has Howard Dean’s political brilliance. No one else has his instincts. He’s not crazy, he’s not angry, he’s not mad. He’s giving people the truth, and those who hear it are responding.
Those who feed and depend on the current system, both Republican and Democratic – they just think it’s hell. Because when the time is right, and the inevitable contradictions between our assumptions and reality occurs, they’re all going to be thrown out of their Washington paradise.
Who will replace them? Those who hang on tightest to Howard Dean’s coattails will replace them.
You watch and see." Much more at.. http://www.corante.com/mooreslore/archives/037050print.html

25. I have to doubt that centrist Dems want to start a civil war |
|
within their own party.
I don't see the evidence. I don't think it's anymore than a few who spoke to the press without thinking things through. Most likely the same ones who didn't support Dean as Chair to begin with.
Important things is that we now know who their are....the Vichy Dems...that is.
