TAKE ACTION NOW..... needed .....MoveOn.org
Edited on Mon Jun-13-05 09:21 AM by ElsewheresDaughter
Thank you for joining Representative Conyers's call to demand that Bush explain the deceptions detailed in the Downing St. Memo. We’ll let you know when the petition reaches half a million and tell you how the delivery to the White House goes.

One of the other ways we can make a difference on this crucial issue is to contact the national media and demand further coverage of this scandal. While foreign journalists have given the memo wide exposure, American media remains eerily quiet. The national TV network news shows in particular have failed to investigate the memo <1>.

However, this is a problem we can help to solve. Readers of the New York Times recently demanded coverage of the British memo, and the newspaper finally wrote a full story <2>. We can do the same for network news.

Please call or email the nightly news programs you watch, at:

ABC World News Tonight
Phone: 212-456-4040
netaudr@abc.com

CBS Evening News
Phone: 212-975-3691
evening@cbsnews.com

NBC Nightly News
Phone: 212-664-4971
nightly@nbc.com

PBS NewsHour with Jim Lehrer
Phone: 703-739-5000
newshour@pbs.org

Identify yourself as a viewer, then say something like:
"Please investigate and report on the British 'Downing St. Memo' suggesting the Bush administration manipulated intelligence to support its longstanding plans to invade Iraq. We need to know what really happened. Thank you for your time."
It's important to track our impact. Please let us know you're calling at:

http://www.moveonpac.org/britishmemo.html?id=-5832433-IVuBWavUtgSUH4V0BFF7qQ&t=1

The American media's failure to question the Bush administration led to an unnecessary war. Now the media's failure to cover the war is making it impossible for Americans to unite behind an exit plan. This won't get better until we demand more coverage of the war.

Thank you for all that you do,

--Ben, Noah, Wes, Micayla, and the MoveOn PAC Team

2. CBS news phone guy said... CBS 'mentioned' DMS last week, Bill
Edited on Mon Jun-13-05 09:35 AM by jean
Plant (sp?) did a short report. The phone guy said CBS is receiving many calls about the DSM and we should 'Stay tuned.' I stated strongly and politely that 'mentioning' the DMS is not nearly enough. (I said) CBS needs to be on a leader in covering this issue with great depth and consistency - it goes to the heart of our Democracy.

The NBC phone number goes to a 'full' mailbox. (NBC Nightly News
Phone: 212-664-4971 - also in the message they gave a direct number to NBC Viewer Relations, 212-664-2333, which also led to the full mailbox)

edit: additions as calls progress

4. An option to a letter that they will just scan - is this - ask a pointed
question.

I posted this idea on Saturday on another thread:

Since every state must be represented on DU...
and if DU people would send a letter to the editor(s) of the largest newspapers in their area, in your letter -
ask a pointed question.

Ask the editors how many journalists they have working on the Minutes out of Britain, the lack of preparation, and the missing funds in Iraq or when they will have more.

Tell them what YOU want by asking THEM a POINTED QUESTION. Point by asking a question only they can answer. They're not going to answer you, but you may 'ping' their brain while they answer themselves and/or discuss assignments/focus and note the interest that is out there.

5. Tucker Carlson and right wing pain.
Edited on Mon Jun-13-05 09:50 AM by higher class
I pained myself by watching MSNBC for just a few minutes this morning. What I heard is bowtie saying that the lack of preparation is a non-issue because we all knew that they didn't have an post-attack plan.

Tucker, we now have documentation to prove or not - that is the issue.
Tucker, what it means is that WE WERE CHEATED.
Tucker, what it means is that there is chaos in many families and financial ruin for many - for years to come (if we ever get out of this).

Tucker - tell the authors of the strategy and tactics for the cover-up and deflection, that this defense/talking point is STUPID and we're not going to fall for it.

Actually, a distinction is required...
they had a plan to bomb them up, then make Halliburton and other corporations wealthier by rebuilding things it all for the combined pleasure of the citizens and themselves. And we all knew they were gong to force them to vote.

The lack of a plan was for the extended fighting and for losing a war and having to pull out.

6. While you're at it, don't forget to support Reid on Bolton.
(I'm really starting to like this Reid guy!)

Don't be shy in calling, his aids are very friendly! They're busy though are I can tell they boil in down to a "you support Reid on ???" "you don't support Reid on ???" and your state. It's quick and easy and if you have CenturyTel package it costs 5cents! Go for it!

Please send an email to Harry Reid
