If they were left to their own devices...?
What would be the end result? If no one interferred with Bush and the Republicans in Congress, where would we end up and and how long would it take? Some might argue no one is interferring with them now. Where will our nation be five years from now if no one stops this present disaster from happening?

4. Exactly...
I'll never understand how they can believe that a society can get away with having no social safety net...they think the markets are the answer to everything...there won't even be low-level fast food jobs if more and more people are out of work or making considerably less...and the mid-level jobs are leaving the country or getting cut...and then they tell us to get a college degree so you can get a better job...but wait, now they've cut the pell grant programs, assuming you can even take time away from working two jobs to go to school...maybe you manage to eke out your degree, but then who's creating the better paying jobs? Wal-Mart???

and say that eventually cooler heads would prevail and an opposition party, or at least coalition, would emerge from within the Republican party. In the meantime, all the abuses we're seeing right now would markedly increase.

Edit: I'm assuming that when you say "left to their own devices" you mean that in this scenario there are no Dems or Greens to oppose their agenda.

5. it depends
on how far they are willing to go. If they stay within the laws of the constitution they won't get far enough to do any irreparable damage. If they start invalidating amendments and adding new ones that limit freedoms then we could be in trouble.
