I guess I need to eat some humble pie
Remember when the DOD announced that it would be taking over the recruitment/retention reporting rather than the services reporting directly? I was a suspicious pessimist and insisted we'd see much better numbers coming out of the Pentagon. I became even more suspicious when they announced they would delay the reporting of these figures for more than a week.

My apologies for those who caught this on Friday, but I assume there are others here like me who haven't seen them yet.

http://press.arrivenet.com/gov/article.php/651879.html

The Department of Defense announced today its recruiting and retention statistics by the active and reserve components for the month of May.

Active duty recruiting. The Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force met or exceeded their recruiting goals in May. The Navy's recruiting goal was 1,939, and it enlisted 1,947 (100 percent). The Marine Corps' goal was 1,843, and it recruited 1,904 (103 percent). The Air Force goal was 1,037, and it recruited 1,049 (101 percent). The Army missed its May recruiting goal of 6,700 by 1,661 recruits (75 percent).{/i]

So overall a 85% month. Lucky thing the Army lowered their quota from 8,050 to 6,700 eh?

Is this a better or worse statistic than previous months? My suspicious nature wonders if maybe they aren't as stupid as I thought and will gradually fudge the numbers up over time. Sorry, but I just don't trust them right now. Wonder why.
