idea re: Christian Coalition call for gays to wear labels
Edited on Mon Jun-13-05 08:03 PM by tmorelli415
Would be interesting to organize a national movement where those opposed to the right-wing religious extremist agenda wear a gold triangle - and not just for one day, but for as long as it takes to raise awareness of the truth behind these people. I think it would be very poignant.

1. I dunno
The whole triangles thing came from the Holocaust; I'd hate to equate our situation with that of the millions killed by the Nazis.

3. I disagree, it's the exact same mentality that ended in those deaths

5. But still
There's a difference between those wanting to put prayer in schools and those wanting to commit genocide across a continent.

7. Not really
It's all steps towards the same goal, and we're following in the exact same steps the Nazi's took.

"Secular schools can never be tolerated because such schools have no religious instruction, and a general moral instruction without a religious foundation is built on air; consequently, all character training and religion must be derived from faith. . . we need believing people." -- Hitler, 1933

9. Yeah
I will definitely not argue with the fact that the Nazis openly embraced religion as a means to their ends; hell the German belt buckle in WWII had "God is with us" on it.

Don't let anyone tell you the Nazis were secular.

13. We can't say that
We can't say that until they do. Remember the "they would kill if they could do again" was the mantre against Saddam Hussein. I was one who said you can't invade for something they haven't done yet; until we have a crystal ball we can't "preempt" Iraqi action.

Same principle.

2. Why...
a gold triangle, as opposed to another color/shape? Am I missing something?

4. whatever shape or color -
would work - just some way to identify the huge majority of people uncomfortable with their agenda and feeling they've gone too far.

12. I like your idea
unfortunately almost nobody would get it. If was related to MJ or the misssing Aruba girl then it my fly. Very few people recognize the danger of the right in the US. If MSM covered it like they do when Dean gives some painful truths, then it would work.

PS those worms tast just fine with garlic and butter.

11. I think we could use your idea as a starting point
It would be cool to organize some sort of nationwide visual protest sort of like the black armbands after Bush "won" however it has to be made public as to whatever the symbol means.

If possible I would elect a positive looking symbol of sorts that is universally known to on onr hand defy the right wing but on the other hand represent something good.

14. The King of Denmark
wore a Star of David during the Nazi occupation. This started everybody in the whole nation wearing them. The Danes did many things like this to peaceably oppose the lunatic nazis. It drove the nazi thugs crazy.
(I know, I know, short trip.)

15. I do like your idea, and I agree that it needs publicity for the
meaning of the symbol. My spouse mentioned earlier that all those who think like the christian coalition should wear dunce caps.

16. Kicking donkey symbol: also, longship, "short trip"??
Edited on Mon Jun-13-05 09:25 PM by oscar111
what did short trip mean in your post?

now: main point... kicking donkey would be a fine symbol to show all we are dems and opposed to the GOP neocons and all their rubbish.

could use it on lapel pins.. armbands.. tee shirts... et.
