I don't understand this--can someone please explain to me how our "Representatives" are able to vote but the people who they "represent" are not ALLOWED to know what the hell they are voting for or against???

apparently there are 80 co-sponsors to the bill.

"Missing from that list were senators from the state that reported the most lynching incidents: Mississippi Republicans Trent Lott and Thad Cochran."

who are the ones that "voice" voted against it?

vote... vote will not be documented. This way, people will not be able to see who voted against it. This is my understanding.

5. thanks for the links--here's my next question
(maybe you can help me on this as well)

what is the purpose of voice vote? i guess i'm a little surprised to discover that our reps can vote on something and do it off the record (so to speak since it doesn't get recorded as to who voted for or against something).

and who decides on what type of vote to have?

if you don't know--maybe somebody can help me out with this.

(and with this in mind why can't we do a voice vote on impeaching as well?)
